Current best setup to run Daphne in a cabinet

If you're only going to play one game, why use a frontend at all? You should be able to launch daphne directly to cliffhanger with a single line batch file. Just put that in windows startup:

an example i found:

Code:
daphne.exe cliff vldp -blank_searches -min_seek_delay 1000 -seek_frames_per_ms 20 -homedir "Z:\Videogames\Emulators\Daphne"
-cheat -bank 0 00000000 -bank 1 01000000 -bank 2 00000000 -bank 3 01111000 -sound_buffer 2048 -fullscreen -x 640 -y 480

Software was never my strong suit. The Arpicade with an image made by frizz would be amazing for me.

Oh yeah... on thing to keep in mind. You're going to have to likely run the Pi4 or Pi5 version of the ARpiCADE simply because I've updated my 3 Pi3 systems to Pi5 systems and my 4-player cab is rocking a Pi4. I can't test on a Pi3 any longer. Being that a Pi5 comes in at $65-$70, I suspect that's not going to be a huge deal.
I will buy whatever it requires.

I imagine you don't have a spare PC? If so, that would certainly be a cheaper option. Regardless, I'm interested in seeing how to make the ARpiCADE load up a single game... so I'll investigate regardless. :)

I have several i7 pcs just sitting around I can grab for sure. I don't care about the cost factor. If you can make an image I can plug into an arpicade I would jump on it in a heartbeat. This would take a completely empty cliffhanger cabinet from nothing to working in one simple step. Well worth it!

Have a friend that's trying to setup daphne on an old windows box to run Dragon's Lair and he's been circling the drain for months trying to get the OEM scoreboard working on Win7. Apparently in Win7 Microsoft locked down the parallel port and nobody can actually confirm exactly how they "made it work".

You can use a cheap Arduino to make a usb to parallel port shield or buy a usb to parallel port cable. There are third party drivers and tools to help you control the parallel port out there but even so this method requires quite a bit of tinkering.

Yes, as his hours of dicking around agrees with your statement.

Do you have links to any info that actually show how someone implemented the USB based solution? All the stuff we find is boils down to "I dumped the dll into these x locations and it started working".. Which of course, didn't work and didn't help.

Unfortunately no. It seems most of the issues people have with getting the third party drivers stem from running a 64 bit OS. Considering your friend is still running a win7 machine for his setup, it might be best to try running Win7 32 bit and see if that helps.

I received some instruction ... will likely attempt to create an image sometime today if I have time.

It's working. I just need to clean a few things up (get rid of the ARpiCADE logo at boot and the "Now Loading" that appears afterwards). You'll essentially see 8-10 seconds of blackness (maybe a few resolution changes... not sure yet... gotta see how it works out) then the game will come up. Once I've cleaned it up I'll reduce the size of the image to fit on a 16GB card and she's done.

NOTE: I can not attest to the accuracy of the game in Daphne. If it's accurate... this version should be accurate. If it's not... this one won't be. I did play a few scenes and it does appear to be working as what I would expect to be "normal".

...cleaned up the NOW LOADING and the mouse cursor that popped up for a half second or so... down to just eliminating the ARpiCADE intro logo.

I have to remake the boot initrmfs with the new image with this version rather than just update a png file. What I am doing, FWIW, is replacing these images with solid black images...

what games do you have working on Daphne ?
would be possible to get a copy of the image :)

Here is a really crappy video (taken with my camera of all things) of what I sent the OP...

No way to get to the menu any more... all hotkeys disabled so it requires coinup...

Works pretty awesome. Seems it would be a pretty damn good way to add rare/unobtanium/exceptionall expensive internals to a cabinet rather than to let it just sit there and rot...

EDIT: Wrong video... maybe I didn't take that video... this is a video of the Daphne ONLY image I setup for another member here...

In any case... the Cobra Command takes about 15 seconds to power up. All black screen until the game fires up. Straight forward.
