Cult classic arcade games that you do not like

Joust. I played it back in the day, but it holds no interest for me anymore. Same with Dig Dug.

Donkey Kong. This game just did not age well in my opinion, but Donkey Kong Junior is still great.

Galaxian - Stopped being fun after Galaga came out. Same thing, aged poorly.

Gauntlet. - It just isn't very fun at home.

Every wrestling game ever.

Those are the main two. Then there are a lot of other games that are considered top classics that have similar (more obscure games) that blow them away.

Galaga is great, but Galaga 88 is better.
Mr. Do! is great, but Neo Mr. Do! is better.
Every game out there with Tetris is the title is better than the original Tetris arcade game.
Rally-X is a turd once you have played New Rally-X.

I thought a "cult classic" was something that didn't do well but has loyal fans anyway. Games like Defender and Donkey Kong are some of the biggest hits ever... I don't know if this topic was totally understood...

Anyway... I personally never saw the interest in Dragon's Lair... nice to look at but the gameplay was horrid... I never felt fully in control.

Space invaders sucks too. Way too slow. Also, not sure if there was an arcade version or not, but The Legend of Zelda did nothing for me either.

Well He gives examples of what He means in the first post. Pac-Man, Galaga So I think everyone has been on target regardless of the definition of cult classic. My Mac gave me this definition.

• [usu. as adj. ] a person or thing that is popular or fashionable, esp. among a particular section of society : a cult film.

These games were widely popular, So He may have been a bit off.

Back to the topic,I think I would have to agree on Dragons Lair. When you see it for the first time. Especially way back then. I know I was like Wholly [censored]!! I was young and assumed you had full control and was blown away. turns out you have very little control at all. The animation is Beautiful though. Don Bluth Rocks.

Fans of the animation style in those laser games should check out his movies. and even The "cult classic" movie Xanadu. As He has a animated section in that as well.

LOL We can't swear here

Joust, Dig Dug and Defender are the few that stand out for me as well. I also hated the fighting games that were so popular when I was in High School. By the time I had my own money, all the classics were converted to SF and MK.

Great Post!!!

Definitely the Dragon's Lair games were horrible, and they have a real cult following,

Then a real Ocult </font color> favorite is Satan's Hollow. That game was the worst play right after dragon's lair. The cabinet alone makes it worthy of cult following....but after playing mine for 5 minutes, I sold it.

There are a few I never really liked - Tempest, Crystal Castles, Mr Do!, Centipede and Tapper are the ones that immediately come to mind.

- James

Dragon's Lair - calling this a 'game' is stretching it
Crystal Castles - bear picking up jewels, why?
Joust - just seemed silly
Track&Field - all the button pounding seemed goofy
Kangaroo - flickery graphics, poor controls
