You guys think Crystal Castles is worth getting if you already have a pacman in your game room? I think that the CC cab is pretty unique and would give the room a cool vibe, even if the game is very much like pacman. Looking for second oppinions.....

Crystal Castles isn't THAT close to Pacman, imo. Different cab, different controls, different perspective, different strategy, etc.

The only similarity is that you collect things to progress to the next level & need a power-up to defeat certain enemies.

But saying CC is very much like PacMan is akin to saying Missile Command is very much like Space Invaders. (because you have to shoot things that come down from the top)

And, yes, CC is definitely worth getting! Arguably one of the best looking cabs ever w/ light up trackball, unique game play...

cc

I have one and like the way the cab lights up and looks. also like the game play and the hidden stuff. that game also does not command a high price so you cant lose. just remember be careful what you pay cause you wont be able to sell it for 0ver 450.00 if you get bored of it. mine is in storage, I plan on bringing it back in the spring.

Crystal Castles is an awesome game. One of the first games I added.

I don't think it is very similar to Pac Man.

I LOVE the way the cab looks, I guess I said similar because, the premise is the same. collect dots, stay away from bad guys. Local guy wants 750 for a good looking machine, which I know is high. I haven't seen one this nice though. I like the idea of a $450 machine.

For $450 it should look amazing...because that's on the high side of prices for one (at least in the midwest). It's one of my favorite games, but there's no way I'd pay $750.

I had one years ago, traded it off, then wanted another one (not finished restoring) if that says anything. The art package is amazing, but you want to find one in really nice shape if possible, especially the front panel art. You can buy a replacement control panel overlay, but the speaker overlays are near impossible to find now. The 3 overlays were repro'd near 10 yrs ago, so they're out there. Basic maintenance for one if you buy is - recap monitor, rebuild AR2, rebuild trackball.

I think CC is a really good game for the kids or even the women in the house. It's fun. And a great looking cab. I agree with the other posters, 450 is on the high side. I got mine for 250.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Burgertime? That's the game about making sandwiches..

I have both a Crystal Castles and a Pac-man in my Loftcade and I love them both. They are different enough to coexist in the same line up, and you just can't beat the aesthetics of CC!

I got my CC about 8 months ago in pretty awesome shape for $300, but haven't seen another in my area since. $750 is on the higher side, but if they don't pop up that often around you, you might regret not snapping it up!

Damn, I wish I could find a decent CC around here for under $300 :-/ I have only ever seen them go for over $600-700 no matter the condition.

Agreed with the rest of the crowd... Crystal Castles is an interesting game... quirky characters, simple to play and know the rules; but difficult to master, hidden features, etc. But the best thing about it is the beautiful cabinet. Grab it and put it out where the side art is clearly visible. You won't be disappointed.

wow a crystal castles thread, very exciting. one of my top ten. love the lil bear!

It suprised me when I got into the hobby a yr and a half ago that CC could be bought for under 400 or even 300 dollars. I thought for sure that would be a 500 game. I guess there is a lot of them out there.

They seem to be scarce around here. I would love one. It is one that I really remember as a wee lad.....

I agree with what everyone else has said, Crystal is a great game with great artwork to match. Comparing it to Pacman is like comparing Centipede to Galaga, similar genre but very different games. I would take one in a second.
