What's a good selling price for an average condition Crystal Castles? Would you pay $350 for one cosmetically sound but with a soft monitor or do you think it is better to get one for the same price that has cosmetic damage but plays fine and has had the same owner/been in the same location for 15 years?

I have a lead on two and am not sure the best route. I just don't want to overpay.

I'd rather have something that works than something that is broken but looks good.

That said, it is easier to replace a monitor than it is to spiff up a cosmetically damaged cabinet.

What do you mean by the game having a 'soft monitor'? Dim?

I'd say cosmetically good AND working nicely is worth $350, but not lacking one or the other.

Agreed. One thing to keep in mind- the art package for CC is not currently available.

Me personaly, I would take the one that looks nicer. But then again I enjoy working on them and fixing them up. My weak spot, and the potentially expenesive part, is the repair of the cab and artwork (if available).

Crystal Castles artwork, as well as early Atari, is some of the best out there. Given that, its easier to swap/repair a board, ARII or monitor. The same won't be said for that artwork.

I'd go for the pristine artwork myself.

I'll have to agree, especially this artwork:

as others have pointed out the quality art work is not available for CC. Get the one that is cosmetically better but pay accordingly if the game has issues.

Thanks, everyone. I have a third lead to a game from a forum member which seems to be both cosmetically and mechanically sound.

I also prefer cosmetically sound games over working ones. Much cheaper and easier to replace a monitor or pcb than redoing the cab and art. I'm currently restoring several games and the restoration is costly compared to getting the games running and the monitor replaced.

Sideart is inkjet, and not from any of the trusted guys that put out decent inkjet work that I can tell.

CP is an old original control panel with a well used but decent CPO.

The two Quarterarcade pieces are legit, quality silkscreened pieces. These were screened be Arcade Renovations before they sold out to Quarterarcade. However, they are out of the speaker cover which is frequently bad. That being said, it pains me to remember that the 3 piece set (CPO, marquee, speaker cover) could have been picked up from Arcade Renovations for $39 before they shutdown.......

I'd take a very nice cabinet with non-working PCB, p/s, and monitor over a fair condition working game any day. That stuff can usually all be fixed, and that's the challenge.
