I have a pair of Crusin World Drivers, replaced both Monitors with new WG Tri Sync 26" LCD, after spending quit a bit of time on the mounting brackets got them installed and have a great picture on both. The problem is, after you hook up the linking cable on the Game that is set to be the "slave", the monitor turns ON for 3 seconds then OFF for about 4 seconds and it just keeps strobing like this. Game plays blind just can not see it all the time. If you change the setting so this cabinet is now the "master" and the other is now the "slave" the problem moves to the other Cabinet. Put it in "test" and the monitor stays on or remove the link cable and both work independently as they should.

Has any body else had a problem like this? Has any body else used WG LCD Monitors on Midway Drivers and link more then one game?

Don't know if i need to use another manufactures LCD monitors that may have different operating characteristics then the WG.

I tried putting a 4.7K "pull up" on the sync and that made no difference. Put the scope on the Sync and the signal stays strong during linking. All the voltages for the logic check in specs. all grounds test good.

This should not happen because the logic for video out is not tied to the rest of the Games logic...more of a Parallel port type.

I sure could use some ideas, I have 1500.00 in parts alone in this project with the 2 monitors, bezels, mounting brackets (that needed a lot of mods) shipping, etc.

I have talked to WG and Happs Tech Support, so hope some one here may have had the same problem.

That's weird. Why would being in "slave" mode change the video output at all let alone to the extent that the LCD doesn't see the signal? You've checked and it doesn't so it must be something else.

Longshot - Slave mode is somehow throwing interference through the video connection that confuses the LCD by making it lose the signal OR making it think another source is connected OR forcing a rescan of sources.

Did they link and work before you put the LCD monitors in? What version ROMs do you have in them and are they both the same revision?

They are the same version or ROMs, they do work with CRTs. I actually took one of the old Monitors and hooked it back up to the Machine set to be the Slave and Game works perfect...with LCD as Master and old CRT as Slave setting.

Has any body else used the WG Monitors and been able to link them together?

My guess is I might not have this problem with the 26" Makvision or the Pro. but they tell me they a designed so similar it should not matter.

It appears the monitor some how is scanning to find the proper display mode when they are linked, but I can not see anything on the scope that looks any different on the signal.

Do you have the LCD frames grounded? Maybe the link cable signal leaking through there and throwing the LCD circuitry off? Disconnect the ground from the LCD frame? Weird.

I thought the same thing.

I checked the monitor frames are not tied to the "ground stud" with a ground wire to the rest of the grounds down by the power supply..but they are Grounded by the 110V volt power plug...when you ohm every thing that is steel that is in sight, (logic, RF shield, power supply, monitor, transformer, front door, steering wheel, etc.) all grounds are tied together. I even added some temporary jumpers from logic to logic for a extra ground and then tried from monitor mounting brackets to the stud.

So maybe I should try to remove the 110v ground and add a chassis ground to see what happens.

Well that made no difference, removing the Ground that is in the line cord plug still left me with a completed circuit to ground...... from the plug for signals.

Tried it any way and still had a picture that turns on / off.

Ideas?

This might be a stretch but its worth looking into. I think that Cruisin World was up to version 2.3 byt the time it was done. Make sure that you've got 2.3 ROMs and if you dont it might be worth upgrading. If you already have 2.3 I'd try to downgrade but be aware that 1.9 (or was it 1.6?) had a reset bug that would watchdog the board.

Your mentioning Master and Slave and not Master, 2, 3 or 4 so that makes me think you've got an older version.

Not sure why changing the link ID would cause the snyc to change but it is....

FWIW, I've used these Wells monitors on all sorts of linked Midway drivers. Hydro, Off Road, CalSpeed (ok that one is Atari), World, Exotica even USA.

Well good to know that you have had good luck with the Monitors, and I have version 1.9.

So are newer versions available (Happ?) I can burn them if the codes are on the net somewhere. Worth trying although, I talked with Happ tech support extensively about what these games are doing and he didn't ask about version, but we both may have over looked it.

Or if somebody has a set of ROMs they want to part with.

Thanks to the tip.

I've got version 2.3 here. I can email you the zip if you want it. There are 4 ROMs that need to be burned/changed. U10 thru U13.

PM me your email address if you want the zip file.

EDIT: This will be really interesting to know if this fixes your problem.

Is there any way to force the monitor to use a specified setting instead of scanning for a signal to adjust to?

question

I'm new to this and just signed up.I see this post is a year old but Im having the same problem with my cruisn games.I have them linked and working fine..I switched the monitors to wellsgardner LCD and I'm having the same problem as above. I have versions 4.1. Did anyone figure out how to fix this? Thanks

Hello , having the same issue. Spent lots of $$$ . Wells is aware and doesn't seem to have a fix for it yet.

crusin' world

pardon me for pipeing in here...

crusin' world's highest romset was 2.4

if you look for the roms...say from a Mame listing ... remember mame images are made from rom images...and my crusin is 2.4

just a note :)

I am getting Emails so will post the final cure here.

For future reference there was no fix for linking them.....Wells pretty much said "they are to old of games to put the time and effort into finding why they do not sync".

I'am thinking isn't they why you made LCDs was for replacing worn out CRTs.?????

It was to bad because despite the fact they were 16X9 the graphics looked great.

Thanks to gamefixer for the latest ROMs...... but that made no difference.

End up being that to much information is passing back and forth over the LINK line and it can not handle it all so it is getting corrupted.

My customer wanted the Games to be linked so I bought new Happ tri Monitors and installed them.. They have a smaller view (about 1/2 inch all the way around) and the glass is more flat so did not fit the bezel very well, but did look and work as they should.

As I remember I had well over 1500.00 in parts in trying to do this upgrade so ended up selling the LCD monitors, bracket, and bezels to some one else for single Game use.

Have not checked, maybe the cost have come down now, but by the email still no fix.
