I have purchased a Crusin USA sit down that is missing the seat pedestal. I can find them online, but shipping is a killer. Any suggestions for a DIY solution that doesn't look like the Clampetts built it.

I have the same issue, I think the seat base could be made pretty easily but the main problem is, there's a huge metal plate that mounts on the top of it, that the seat gliders bolt too. That whole assembly would be a real pain to make, and it also is what kind of supports the massive, massive weight that the average American beef-eater places in the seat when they play it :) So you could build it out of wood without that and without the ability to adjust it, but you'd have to use real wood and not MDF like the rest of it's made out of or the thing would eventually collapse.

I have an idea for the adjustability w/o the steel plate (which is $260).

Made the seat pedestal from aircraft plywood and put fixed rollers on the bottom.
Make another box attached to the game (where the attachment struts were) that nests inside the pedestal base like an upside down dresser drawer.
Slot the inner box and use a star knob on top of the outer box (between your legs, just in front of the seat) to lock them together.
Install a trampoline spring inside the nested boxes. Loosen, push back to the desired distance, tighten.
