Crush Roller is another game on the ArcadeSD multigame board that I've been playing lately. Crush Roller, for those who don't know, was called "Make Trax" in the U.S. I remember Make Trax from BITD... but I never played it much... I probably put less than a couple bucks in to it total.

When I discovered that Crush Roller was "Make Trax" I wondered WTF the name was all about. It's been a few years since I discovered it in MAME, but I never really played it. After a few games on the ArcadeSD I realized that Crush Roller refers to the "rollers" that are on screen that speed you up. I had NO idea that you could turn around and roll back over the enemy (and "crush" them) for points... until about 20 minutes ago.

Awesome.

:)

Anyway... anyone play this game much? Does the maze ever change? I've only made it to the 2nd level.

I love this game, used to have an original Make Trax back in the early '90s. Need to get one back in my collection. Still play it on mame though. Used to get over a million once in awhile.

The difference between Make Trax and Crush Roller is bonus points you get after clearing a stage. Make Trax gives the bonus points, Crush Roller does not.(unless there is a dip switch setting that controls that.)

The maze stays the same, but the speed of your brush and the fish go faster the more levels you clear. And tops out at about stage 6 or so. The key to the game is keeping the fish right on top or close to each other. Helps avoid getting trapped. Going back and forth over the rollers a few times can help group the fish and keep them together.

And the fish after awhile become worth more points, topping out at 9,000pts. And the bonus points for clearing a stage top out at 9,000pts. After stage 1, I usually roll over about 4 fish and then clear the stage and move on.

You can also set the game to have a black hole appear randomly, which teleports you to a different part of the maze. Hate that damn thing, so I always have that setting turned off.

The game does not seem to get a lot of love here, but I always liked the game.

I've only played the Neo Geo Pocket version of all things. I remember one year of college spending a lot of late nights with it and Card Fighters Clash waiting for the bus/train. It's a cool take on the whole maze chase genre.

the music that plays just as you're getting ready to start makes me crazy...like i've just had way too much caffeine

Always wanted a Make Trax or Crush Roller. My first cocktail machine was a Make Trax that had been converted to Super Basketball. It was also my first conversion - I identified it by checking for screen burn, and seeing a *very* faint image of the cat in the corner.

I think it's the poster child for quirky games of the period. It's also a lot of fun once you learn how to play it.

I have a battery-operated handheld version of Crush Roller by Gakken from the early 80s. :D

MT is a great game. i don't think many of us understand the theme, but once you get over that, it keeps u coming back.
and if you like make trax, be sure to check out devil fish!

After playing the game a few more times I will say that knowing you can kill the fish with the roller makes the game MUCH easier.
