Hey guys,

KLOV.com has conflicting info on this as it says USA is medium res and world is standard res. This can't be right.

Can anyone confirm which resolution Cruis'n World is? I really need to know soon.

Thanks so much.

Thanks. I too have the same findings but I am about to purchase a medium resolution monitor and I would very much prefer not to make a mistake.

I was hoping that someone owning a Cruis'n World would happen to see this thread so I would know for sure.

Further input is welcome, thanks! :)

EDIT: Oops there we go didn't see your post Aaron. Thanks for the input.

Now the question is what things do I need to know if I am going to put a new monitor in this game? It looks like there are more cables going to the monitor than are in a 19" game? Gosh I've been around for two years and I sound like a newb.

Hmm I'll show you a picture of what is confusing me.

You can also see that the old power connector has been torched in the left side of the picture. See the burned part of the board? Should this worry me as I am connecting another monitor to it or was this likely a problem in the monitor itself and nothing to do with the cabinet having a problem? Thanks.

The video connector is the empty slot all the way to the right i think. It has 7 pins but the connector that was plugged into it only had 5. The grey cables in this pic confuse me as they seem to go out of the monitor and down into the cabinet as well.

The burned area looks like a component blew up. Is the power coming from an Isolation transformer?

I don't see anything unusual about that monitor. It looks like the black connector in the lower left goes to a remote board. The video input is disconnected (the white housing with gold pins). I don't see the power connection but I assume it is off to the left due to the burned area.

Hmm I actually don't remember if there is an ISO in there but I would assume there is.

Think it's safe to put a new monitor in this cabinet or might it blow like the last one?

So I figured out that War Gods, a Midway game of the same year, has selectable resolution between standard and medium res.

Is there any chance that Cruis'n World has a similar dip switch setting?

I plan to transfer the monitor between War Gods and Cruis'n World. Kinda makes me wonder if the monitor in the War Gods is really a medium res if perhaps it was changed out at some point in its life. Any way to tell?

World does NOT have a dip switch setting for standard or medium res. Get us a model # from your other game and we will be able to help out.

Thanks, I'll inquire about that as I don't have the game in my possession yet.

All the Cruisn' games are medium res only. They are not selectable between standard and medium res.

The picture is of either a 7500 or U5000 monitor. The grey cables (there are two) go to the remote board and to the neckboard.

The monitor that is in there may be repaired with a new power cable. This monitor didn't have a cable per se, but a three position Molex connector. If you search Ken Layton's posts undoubtedly you will find one (or more) where he references the part numbers for these. Due to the damage, I would personally solder in a three conductor wire and put the Molex connector on the end.

Great I appreciate the advice. I am not one for board repair but perhaps it is possible. I'm pretty sure I have some extra help visiting this weekend who would could take a look. I have that molex connector that was fried it was just sitting there.

This is semi non-related bubt how does a power connector get fried like that? Should I be worried about plugging another monitor into this cabinet?

As for the monitor ID, I was looking for one on the monitor I will be replacing this one with. I am pretty sure it's a medium res as a standard res JAMMA board will not display correctly on the monitor says the seller.

It was most likely fried due to high resistance at the connection. Is the input power coming to that location coming from an islolation transformer? A voltage spike could have overwhelmed the connection as well but that is unlikely.

There should be a label on the edge of that chassis somewhere with a "P" number like P738 or P793, etc.... that'll identify it rather quickly. Definitely a Wells Gardner.

And those onboard type power connections are notorious for loosing their pin tension, which causes arcing, which causes heat, eventually they burn up. Should have shown symptoms of this earlier on by not coming on all the time and requiring a power cycle or two before the monitor would come on. (that's the typical scenario anyways)
