Been messing around long enough sourcing a monitor for this Cruisn. It uses a medium res monitor, 25 inch or 27 inch. Ive heard all the hate for using LCD widescreens, but I went for it. I found an LG 26 inch LED! tv at Best Buy, open box, $269! Mounted it, used a EGA-VGA converter to upconvert the EGA to VGA. I used the converter boards picture adjustments to dial the screen size to match the bezel, so picture IS NOT stretched, IS NOT wierd looking, looks amazing. The monitor also automatically powers on when power is applied to the cabinet, no need to turn it on seperately.

I now have no idea why people on KLOV think the image would be stretched, all you have to do is adjust the picture with the board controls to bring it back to the 4:3 aspect. The picture is amazing.

This Cruisn is in excellent shape, but I did redo the black areas with appliance paint. Its real shiney and really hard, like automotive paint. New marquee, locks, t molding, the usual.

Im uploading a video now, will post it when its done so you can see the monitor. Anybody on the fence or considering going LCD or LED, should do it!!!

also, on a side note, I was turning the tvs on at Best Buy, and then unplugging them, to see which ones would power back on when plugged back in, and I got in trouble with their "security"! I also was measuring all the screens with a tape measure. They musta thought I was a terrorist or something

wow, three days, no responses!!! Kinda thought I would get KLOV murdered for switchin to a flat screen!!! Im looking for another Cruisn to link with, and am definetly gonna put a matching LG LED in it, hopefully find a cheap one with no monitor, or sell the monitor out of one to help fund

How is the stretching? I can't stand watching 4:3 content on a wide-screen in stretch mode.

I dont see any stretching. The monitor can actually be set for 4:3 aspect, but I liked the picture better in 16:9, with the width shrunk down al little. It literally fills the 25 inch plastic bezel shroud perfectly.

The monitor fits by about an inch on both sides. You could maybe get a 28 inch widescreen in there, and do the same, or just run it at 4:3, but that would be real tight.

Even if I had an unlimited budget, this is still the monitor i would get, it looks that good

(I am neither an employee or a paid spokesperson for LG). !!!!!!!!!!!

Your video looks good to me. Personally I don't have anything against this -- sure, Pac Man would not look right, but for later games like Cruisin', no big deal. I actually passed on getting a nice Cruisin' upright a while back because it played blind, and I was not confident I'd ever be able to find a 25" med res for a decent price. Now I regret it!

Whatever it takes to keep these games playing...

Very nice - was thinking of doing the same thing on my 2nd Rush that somebody put a Wells K7000 chassis and yoke onto a NT-27E Zenith tube. (The chassis is dead at the moment but I can't imagine this playing too nice together)

Definitely a cheaper alternative than finding, buying and having a 27" Med Res shipped.

Very cool!

I am currently doing the same thing on my Hydro Thunder stand-up. Looking for the right monitor and like your idea. I am have some problems with the screen turning red after a little bit. Any ideas what can be causing that? What type of conversion card did you use?

I got the converter board off of Ebay awhile ago. They might all be the same, not sure, but its called a cga/ega to vga converter.

As far as the red coming on strong, im not sure about that, could be a heat issue if it takes a bit to start. Try posting in the monitor repair section for that. Once you get through the jokes and sarcasm, the repair forums are very helpful

Set your Clamp st to 3 and Clamp sp to 4 and it should fix that issue. I had the same thing on a GBS-8220.

Whats clamp ST?

I have a California speed that is going into a red screen. Im curious if I can fix it, I thought the chassis went out.

clamp st and clamp sp are settings found on the GBS-8220 and GBS-8200 video converter boards. If you still have your original arcade monitor in your california speed then this fix won't apply to your situation.

california speed

Hello i have a california speed (well crusin convert) and was looking if i could do a shifter in it and also when its on sometimes it gets a lil blurry after running and sometimes it dont,Any advice do i need to reflow the solder or cap kit ? thanks.

Man, that does look great! I tried this a few years ago and I couldn't get a good picture. What conversion kit did you use? How did it hook up? Thanks! I have the original USA cabinets with 25" monitors. Is that what you have? Thanks.

Congrats on a nice looking conversion. I've also converted two driving games to LCD, a Sega Nascar and a Sega Harley L A Riders. Both were deluxe models with large box projection monitors that worked, but images were marginal at best. I eliminated the projection boxes by fabricating clean looking metal monitor stands, similar to those used with Golden Tee showpiece cabinets. Connection was easy as the game outputs are D-sub standard PC monitor connectors. I did find that not all TV brands would sync; I am using Sony Bravia 46" that also turn on when the game is powered up. The results are attractive modern looking games, with great video, that customers love to play.
