Cruis'n USA Steering Wheel Problem - Constantly Turns Right

Does anyone know where I can get any information on what everything on the Cruis'n USA Wheel driver board does? I got a problem with a machine that I'm working on and I cannot find anyone with the same problem as what I need to fix.

If anyone can help me answer a few questions about the board, can you post?

Pretty much the problem I'm having is that the steering wheel is constantly using force feedback to turn itself to the right, but only when in game mode. Its fine when in self tests and operator menu.

I'm pretty sure its a problem to do with the wheel board since it only happens during game mode and nothing to do with the motor.

I am having the exact same problem. I did change the steering pot and it did not fix the problem. I will probably change the steering board next. The only noticeable thing I see is that the D7 LED on the main board is not lit... and it should be. That gives me a clue.

I know its another game but similar design, this guy had same issue on a california speed where his went left not right. Turned out to be the transistor on the board. If its the same transistor its expensive, he got a used board to fix it. If the transistor failed I could see it making the wheel turn either way upon failure.

Fallow up to let anybody else that is having this problem know what I found wrong with mine.

The 5K pot checked good with a ohm meter, till I pulled it out of the game, then if you wiggled it you could get dead spot readings, also was reading 7.5K across it (don't know if that makes a big difference). Watch the diagram on the pots my wires hooked up in little different places.

Replaced Williams part number 5014-12909-00 with a Happ controls 96-4916-00 this is a 360 degree, rated long life.

Along with a new pot found some other loose hardware on the steering wheel.... hopefully get some time out of it now.

I'm having a similar problem the steering wheel is constantly using force feedback to turn left at all times, Any help would be great..thanks

I had something similar happen with my Sega Indy 500, would self test with force feedback on start up, turn left, and wouldn't come out of it. Turned out to be a broken pot on the backside of the steering column, wasn't making proper connection.

If I disconnect the steering motor the game plays perfect and in test mode the pot seems ok? Could it still be bad?

Guys.... I had this problem, took me forever to find the problem and it was so basic I wanted to scream when I found it.

Where the pot inserts into the steering shaft there's a allen set screw, if this loosens the steering will go haywire as it's turning the pot erratically. Tighten this set screw after inserting the pot shaft into the steering shaft (flat side of pot shaft to the set screw) and you'll be good to go.

I think I'm probably having this issue as well. I took a look over the weekend but didn't see a pot that matched this description...but maybe I'm just blind or looking in the wrong place...can you take a pic of where you're referring to and attach it?

Mine is basically just spastic - at random times the wheel will just jerk one way or the other, usually causing me to run off the road. It's fine during most menus except for initial entry after a race - which of course makes it interesting to get the correct letters entered :p In fact, if you let go of the wheel during the start race countdown, it just turns back and forth, then sort of evens out after the race actually starts.

Just got an Indy 500 with same issue, forceback steering hard to the right. Where did you buy a new pot at?

Found a member on here that had a few parts from a machine, when I get a chance I'll get whatever part number off of it, and post it here. This week and next week are pretty busy(wedding & honeymoon), I'll try to get the info before all of that.
