I have a couple of questions about a Cruis'n usa that I just picked up.

First, the steering feedback does no work at the moment. The motor has been replaced and the Steering feedback pcb has a red lit led so it looks like it is getting power at the moment. I tried unplugging the two transistors that are inline with the motor power wires just to see what would happen and it appears that the motor is "kinda on" it just doesn't give feedback. There is slight resistance, seems to be a constant resistance that doesn't change at all while driving......

I'm wondering if anyone knows what I could check on the driver board? How would I go about checking the transistors to see if they are the problem?

Second, the monitor that is in the game has a little bit of burn in so I would like to replace the tube. I have an extra that is from a k7000, does anyone know if I need a special tube for a medium resolution chassis?

Motor will naturally give some resistance. All electric motors do.

Short answer: yes, you need a medium res tube for a medium res chassis.

Long answer: Mostly yes BUT. There's a few standard res monitors out there that had medium res tubes for whatever dumb reason. Those will generally look nice on a med res but you have to swap the yoke too, as they'll have a yoke for a standard res chassis. You can make a standard res tube work (again, swap the yoke) but the coarse shadow mask will blur the picture.

Check this thread, similar problem, perhaps msg the guy to if he got his fixed yet. If it steers ok it's not the pot, his turned out to be a transistor on the board. I think they are a similar set up on both machines. Sorry I don't know how to test transistors, maybe someone can elaborate on that. Hope you get it working, fun game.

Also like Roothorick stated you will need a med res tube.

thanks for the reply..... I still haven't figured this out yet. I Also noticed that the transistor that is mounted to the heat sink gets really hot, might be normal but who knows. Another issue is that the view buttons on the control panel work, but they do not light up. It looks as though the wires lead back to the force feedback pcb, but I haven't really dug into it. It looks as though I'm going to have to just replace the pcb and see if that makes it work, unless someone else can chime in with an easy fix.

On motor driving circuitry, when it's supposed to be idle? No, that's NOT normal. I don't know the PCB in this case here but I'd bet that transistor is shot. You may have other issues on that board too.

There should be a ribbon cable from the PCB to the drive board that blinks the lights dash and sends bumps to the steering when you go off road or hit things
