Cruis'n Exotica / Cruisin Exotica Link Cable, Ethernet, etc
Hello everyone,
A friend bought two Cruis'n Exotica sit downs that we are working on getting fully running.
I'm confused by the link cable stuff. The documentation is way nutty, and doesn't match up to the machine.
What I read from the official documentation:
* You can use a 10baseT ethernet hub to link up to 8 machines, of which 2 sets of 4 can be played multiplayer.
* There are cables and a crossover connector (which sounds like ethernet) included with the games
* There is a small box under the main board that has the RJ-45 connector where you plug in the ethernet cable
What I see in reality:
There is a firewire port on the board
Another friend with the game has 1 cabinet and it had a long cable with one end terminated with a 6 pin firewire connector laying in the bottom. I didn't see the other end of it, so I'm not sure if it had a RJ-45 on the other end.
We're going to try connecting the two machines with a standard 6' 6 pin firewire cable once the 2nd monitor is repaired.
But I'm curious, does anyone know if it's just ethernet on the wire? Was there an adapter on some of them that went from the firewire port on the system board to a RJ-45 ethernet jack?
There are no illustrations of detailed info in the manual on where the link cable plugs in on the main board.
It's far fetched but if it's ethernet there is some desire in our circle of friends to make a free software load for a off the shelf linksys routers that will make the games able to play each other across the internet. Maybe even a server where anyone with one and internet can join. Not sure the feasibility of this due to timing and due to the way one game is master but it's something we want to look at doing as a hackerspace project.
