Anyone still rocking these??? If so, let here about it.

Today I upgraded from a Dell E153FPf 15" LCD to a Samsung 700DF crt. I didn't pay for either monitor, but I can't believe the difference. I like the CRT so much I decided to finally buy my first PC monitor. All of my previous monitors have been either attached to the computer (laptop) or monitors I got for free. I have held off on buying a PC monitor because I wanted to get something great and I haven't been able to decide between CRT/LCD/LED. After seeing the Samsung CRT I got to looking and found a Sony 24" GDM-FW900 on CraigList. I called the guy and he is going to drive 2 hours from Wyoming to deliver it to me on Friday. This monitor has higher resolution and refresh rates than my 40" Samsung in my living room and there's no lag?!? I can't wait to see this thing in action!!!

For me a CRT is needed for old games on ps2 for me such as hot shots golf or anything timing related. As far as PC games, I can't go back to CRT. The refresh rates make me sick to my stomach and give me a headache. I haven't noticed any lag issues on PC games other than when I hooked my PS2 up through a TV tuner... But I'm sure there were other issues

I've got a Nec xm37. I got it for vga systems and old pc games. On it I've got my xbox 360, Nintendo gamecube, Sega Dreamcast. To me flatscreen LCD/Led's are blurry even though the resolution is lower crt's just seem sharper. For composite/Rgb systems I have a Sony Pvm-2530. I also like projectors front and rear, most do a decent job for old sd signals.

I'm not much of a PC gamer, but up till this past Sunday, I always had CRT's for PC monitors. Scored some LCD's on the cheap at the flea market and finally upgraded!

I don't plan on going back either even to play some of my old games. Hell I even offered up the old monitors for FREE and no one around here wants em.

That's why I'm excited to see this Sony that's coming on Friday. The max resolution is said to be 2304 x 1440 @ 80.0 Hz. The resolution "Sweet Spot" is supposed to be 1920 x 1200 @ 85 Hz which is better than my Samsung LCD (1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz) in the living room.

Thatd be pretty nice. I think my NEC is only 1024X768 @ 60 hz.

I'm thinking I am a little less excited now. I used my free crt all day yesterday and it made me sick. I couldn't stand to look at the screen and had to call it a night early. Today I am back to the crappy LCD and rethinking the step back to crt...

I prefer 17" flat screen CRTs. I have one which I use for my regular PC. I have another one that isn't a flat screen that I used to use in multi-mon. I still need to hook it back up.

I think LCDs look pretty damn nice, especially the latest models. Don't know any serious PC gamers who still rock CRTs.

I would think resolution limitations and full frame picture alone would make modern games somewhat less immersive.

Can't even imagine trying to play WoW on a 17" screen with all the mods and health bars and crap I have on there these days.

I have one PC with a flat 19" CRT and one with a 23" LCD. For me, it depends on the application. I like them both. They are just ... different.
For me, a CRT is more vibrant and warm at the same time.
An LCD looks sharp, but loses the warmth. But an LCD is still my main display because of the real estate and current programming accommodates them well. I would like a nice flat CRT in 16:9 format that didn't take up so much real estate. So much for wants.

I MUCH prefer CRTs for anything. I honestly just threw my plasma into the garage for a CRT... I wish my laptop had a CRT... :(
I can't stand the 50" LCD either, even on HD. Too blurry and dull.

It was a sad day the day that my 19" Mitsubishi Diamondtron shat itself. It started arcing internally and etching across the bottom of the screen.

However now I have a 24" 1080 LCD, I wouldn't go back to CRT.

About the only thing I still have a CRT for is 50Hz light gun games, eg original PS Guncon. I have a small Commodore 1084S Amiga monitor for that. Although I haven't used it in ages.

I still use a 22" NEC CRT for some older pc games and an 18" Samsung CRT for some pc mame games. Both still look great for me.

Finally broke down earlier this year and got a 23" Asus LCD for the newer pc games. Love it!, after some manual tweaking to get the image how I like it. I did not like the presets out of the box at all. Been playing Oblivion(200+ mods) and Fallout 3(150+ mods) again and the games look amazing at 1980 x 1020 resolution.

For the living room, a few years ago I got a 50" LG Plasma. It wasn't until just this month that I broke down and got the Directv HD DVR package. I am glad I did, the Lions and Broncos preseason games in HD have been great. Can't wait for the regular season.:D

I don't understand people getting sick from switching between monitors and refresh rates. Is this something fairly common? Motion sickness related?
I can switch through all monitors for different types of gaming with no visual or sickness issues.

I was rocking a pair of 21" CRTs for several years before moving to 20" LCDs. I've always preferred the superior refresh rates for CRTs and higher available resolutions. Why did I finally move to LCD? One of the CRTs started failing, so I picked up a 20" LCD from Samsung. I didn't notice a great difference, and was able to get a 1600x1200 4:3 high quality panel for not much money. I wasn't doing digital photo editing as much at that time so did not miss the expanded color gamut of the CRT.. and when taking my gaming rig to a friend's to LAN, it was MUCH easier to toss a light LCD into the car than a deep, heavy CRT. And the depth made it very hard on my desk arrangements.

I'm very sad about the state of LCD panels these days. The days of the high-quality, low-end panels are done.. the common denominator seems to be 12:9 or 12:10, 1080p even for the 24" monitors, with poor viewing angles. Fortunately this means I no longer am able to run 1600x1200 and don't have to put on my glasses as my eyesight hasn't gotten better over the years.

High quality low end? Think Dell has a fairly nice IPS screen under $300, at least when it goes on sale. Not sure what your problem with 1080p is, as even that's starting to get bumped in favor of 2560 x 1440.

Hope you didn't pay much for the 20" monitor. I'm not a hardcore gamer and even I think you're being deprived :p

The 20" LCD I got in 2005 was 1600x1200, which was the same resolution I was running my CRT at, so no need to feel bad for me, unless you want to commiserate over the Chinese capacitor debacle that is killing electronics from this era.

My problem with 1080p is that the resolution is poorer that what I am currently running, and it's worse as you increase the screen size. 1080p on a 20" LCD looks FAR better than 1080p on a 32" screen, for instance. And, we're talking about computer monitors, not televisions, so text HAS to be crisp, especially for those of us who have to stare at one of these things for 10 hours a day for work.

I'm using a 22" AOC 1080i @ 80 120Hz and a 20" Widescreen Dell 720p @ 120Hz

Like the Dell MUCH better, but the 22" was the best you could buy back in 07 :p

I am so sick of hearing people whinge about the lag of LCD and plasma displays. I can't notice a frame or two of lag even in games where timing is absolutely critical, such as DDR or IIDX. I very much doubt anyone else can either.
