Is there a written method on how to align these? I had a day of bad luck when it comes to monitors today. Went to do a tube swap on a K7000, and had a little luck in that the tube I had laying around was an almost dead on match with the yoke, so I wouldn't have to swap the yoke and go through all that. Anyhow 3/4 of the way through swapping the tube, and I noticed the alignment tabs on the back of the neck just flapping in the breeze. Apparently this particular tube has a locking tab system where if you bump/turn this ring behind them, it unlocks all the alignment tabs. Yeah, lucky me.

Next, after testing my GnG board to make sure everything's good, I bring my little 13" test monitor back to the basement, and put it on the floor next some other stuff. Well apparently, the breeze from me walking past disturbed said other stuff, which sent a small cardboard box directly onto the monitor, with JUST enough force to crack the tube. It was still hissing when I ran back down the steps to see what the noise was.

The kicker is that I just swapped the tube into the 13" a couple weeks ago and it came out PERFECTLY. It had an awesome picture. HAD...

Pretty much all monitor manuals include instructions on how to adjust the centering or purity rings. Check the K7000 manual at http://arcarc.xmission.com for instructions.

Sorry about the bad luck. i had a tube break once from nothing. I had set it on the ground after rebuilding it and taking it back to the customer. We were standing about 10 feet away from it (indoors) when all of a sudden I heard "Pfsshhhhhh". Neck had a crack in it. No idea why or how it happened....

Wow..first time ever messing with the rings...I guess I did something right. Didn't even look at a manual just started monkeying around with it.

Looks a little fat in the pic but its actually pretty crisp, the blue is off by a *hair* but the thing looks pretty good as it is so I'm not touching it. I tried moving the blue tab a little and it didn't help.

Turned out the chassis I had in the monitor which I thought worked is blowing fuses, and had a broken pot on the neck board. I took another chassis I got from someone on here, replaced a backwards cap, fixed a lifted trace, replaced a broken pot on THAT neck board (From the bad one), and wala...1 K7000 back from the dead.

Good job. I think the Atari WG6100 manual has the best and clearest explanation of how to do a full convergence.

If the blue is off in one of the corners you can try using one of those plastic strips with a metal strip on the end.

Thanks I'll check that out - in true IT fashion (yeah Im a geek) I tried it on a whim and somehow figured it out. I should pick up a lottery ticket today.
