With the recent Exidy 440 kit, I decided to fix up my Crossbow.

Picked it up off of ebay a while back for about $100 -

Not too bad. Rebuilt the power supply and it is working.

Of course, that's not good enough! Installed the Collex'n -

Now to make it look good -

Took off the parts to be powder coated -

Why did they make this thing so hard to take apart? :)

While the parts are being done, started with the side art -

Mamemarquee -

Didn't like it. Fellow KLOVer IvanT made a better replica. Will be shown in next post -

Here is it today, after redoing the cabinet and applying artwork -

The artwork from IvanT turned out great! Thanks a million!

Now waiting until this weekend for the coindoor and to rebuild the crossbow itself.

Looks Great! Now I have to do mine.

Since you have it apart how does the contact system work gun mech. If you lean to hard against mine it seems to lose gun tracking. I'm assuming something is worn.

Thanks, artwork made the game!

Not understanding your question...what do you mean by contact system? The optics in the gun, or how the gun is in the swivel holder?

I'm assuming it is something to do with the way it connects in the ball joint. For some reason when you put your weight on the gun it seems to screw up the way the gun works. I've not had mine apart so I'm not sure how the whole mess is set up I'm just guessing you maybe have an idea why this is happening.

Nothing in the ball joint except wiring. The connector is actually near the coin door. May be the wiring itself, or bad optics.

(I assume you have done calibration)

Check the wires from the opto sensor in the gun that run down thru the swivel ball. Sometimes the wires become worn and frayed and will short out randomly when aiming. This is something I have seen twice in 440 games. Fine metal shavings will end up in this area also from the gun swivel ball joint which only adds to the problem.

Thats a sweet looking game. I've never seen an Exidy game come up for sale or trade in all these years around the St. Louis area.

Very nice job on the restoration!

+1 on the lack of Exidy stuff around the Central US. I'm just outside Kansas City and have seen a few thousand games sell at local auction over the years; but never an Exidy shooter.

They must not have had strong distribution in this area BITD.

Funny you say that. I just removed a St Louis OP sticker from the marquee. I believe I had it shipped from there...:D

Here are a few more pics after the parts were done being powder coated. Reassembling the crossbow (damn trigger assembly) was a b****!

Starting to shape up -

Couple things that I'll have to live with -

1. The CPO being put on a little high and the Start is under the button a little.
2. The woodstock wasn't redone (maybe later)
3. The cable on the crossbow didn't want to come off! Rivet bolts were used and didn't want to damage the frame of it. Melted off the plastic and did the whole thing black. It is now the "Stealth Crossbow"!

Nice work!

I think the dimensions in file they are using for the CPO at Mamemarquees are screwed up. I've talked to a few people who have installed them, and it seems like you have to make a choice--line up the front logo correctly, or line up the start button correctly.

I've been considering a similar restore, but right now the CPO is holding me up. I suppose I could fill/move the hole for my start button, but that just seems wrong as part of a restoration.

And the money shot -

Put this in it's own spot! Looks to be a little dirt on the right, should have seen it before the pic...

Hey Guys, Sorry to bump an old thread but it made the most sense to do this than start a new one.

I am restoring a Crossbow and have ordered sideart from IvanTT (has it shipped yet?) and the CPO from GameonGrafix (formerly MAMEmarquees).

I added a note about the Start button based on the information in this thread and Scott wants to fix it so it is right for me and any future purchasers so I was hoping you could help out with a few things and maybe verify some measurements. I don't have an original CPO so my measurements are not going to be perfect.

First questions is does the CPO wrap around the bottom of the CPO to cover the bottom of the 3/4" width of the vertical face of the CP? Or does it just go to the bottom of the vertical face of the CP?

Here are my measurements:

There is a 1" metal strip covering the top of the CPO adjacent to the glass.
The start button on my machine is 5" from the glass and is 1 ¼" in length so the button lies 5"-6 ¼" from the glass.
The top flat surface of the CPO is 16 7/16" from the front to the glass. (I have a metal strip on this corner so may not be 100% accurate)
The front (vertical) face of the CP is 6 ¼".
The front face is ¾" thick if the CPO is supposed to wrap underneath.
So the whole CPO should be 23" from the bottom (front) to the glass. 23 ¾" if it is supposed to wrap under.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe it does. My Crossbow was converted to a Combat, and the Combat CPO is still intact. On my machine, the Combat CPO covers that small horizontal area on the bottom of the control panel. I think that makes sense--otherwise it would have been easier for kids to peel the CPO off. :)

I'm putting together a similar set of measurements to send to GameonGrafix. I'll post here too and let you know what I come up with.

By the way, is that a Rastan CPO on your Crossbow? The art on that actually fits the Crossbow theme *really* well!

It is and your right. I will keep it like that through Halloween and then change when I eventually get the replacement. Scott doesn't want to print it until it is right so he was going to check with a few people to get some measurements also. Maybe you were one of them.

Thanks for the feedback. I will also update the thread.
