Crossbow Resto

Does anyone know what color the inner shroud pieces should be for Crossbow? Are they grey or are they supposed to be black?

Mine are black. You've got a little fade going on, or they just didn't care and put whatever black their supplier had at the time.

Just did a quick Google search just to make sure, and the first five or six images I found all had gray. So I'm gonna just go with gray.

Interesting. Though looking at mine now it isn't cardboard. It's laminated inside. I have the gigantic cab

Here is mine

Four of my short cabs (none are Crossbows) have black, one large cab ( Combat) has black.

And, is that part covered in laminate or a vinyl wrap?

The grey ones in my crossbow are made from thick tagboard kinda like Atari bezels were made of, only matte instead of glossy. On my Cheyenne, it's the Moroccan vinyl I think.

I ordered a large self healing cutting mat. Was finally able to trim that silly white border off the crossbow CPO. Now I'm either going to install that first or install the laminate on the sides first, I'm not sure which. Just feel like I'm running out of summer to get this finished.

There really needs to be an "Amen, brother" emoticon. Summer is flying by.
For some weird reason, I feel like the summer never really started. I was literally still stuck in June mode when I realized there's about three weeks left of August. I seriously can't fucking believe it. Especially living on a lake, the end of summer comes with a bit of quiet despair and a hell of a lot of work. It seemed like every time I went out to the garage to work on these games this summer, some weather anomaly or lake-related/ kid related project popped up. I'm not complaining tho, as in 5 or 10 years, I'm really gonna miss the hell out of this time in my life. I'm still relatively young and healthy, all 3 kids are still around, I'm still in the hobby, etc.

Self-healing cutting mat? I'm going to have to look that one up....sounds very useful.
You can get a 24 x 36 matt on Amazon for about $42. I put off buying one forever thinking I could use cardboard, carpet whatever. But after wrecking my third area rug in the garage and several blades on the concrete, I figured it's about time I get something that actually works underneath my X-Acto blade.

So back to the CPO dilemma. After trying and wrecking the first NOS one, I've got one NOS and one repro left. I did a little color comparison and noticed how much more vibrant the colors are on the NOS version versus the repro. Check out the blue rectangle on the NOS version on the right. The same rectangle on the repro almost looks purpleish black. The green is also not as vibrant on the repro.

I've noticed that the placement of the objects is wrong on the repro. If I line up the elements on the top of the control panel correctly, the Crossbow logo Folds underneath the front of the CP with the repro, whereas it sits front and center on the NOS version.

That repro sucks - how can they get it so wrong unless there are multiple versions?

Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm almost tempted to go back to the other NOS CPO and try that as I've now laminated the majority of the area that needs to be covered. I also found out that the 'nipple' I originally found on it was actually the die cut piece of vinyl from one of the gun bolt holes. It just popped out of the hole, rolled up the CPO and adhered itself to the overlay. I was able to peel it off and now this NOS CPO isn't looking so bad anymore.
