i have never replaced a overlay and first wondered why the one on my game is like it is? any thoughts? and also is it hard to replace one, will i need to remove the old one first?, i found one at This Old Game, also will i have to replace the wood piece, looks like my game has a distressed wood panel that has been painted brown, i would assume the panel should be smooth for the overlay to attach? thanks for any info on this project.

yank that old bitch off, fill in any imperfections with bondo, sand, repeat, prime as needed - allow more time than you should for primer to off-gas .... place new overlay on machine - ask yourself .. why the fuck doesn't the start button line up?

then fill in old start button with a piece from a wooden dowel, mark and re-drill start button in a location to match the new overlay, then fill in imperfections with bondo, sand & prime

wait a long time for primer to off gas, touch up edges with black paint in case anything shows & apply new overlay

easy huh ?

thanks for info, I assumed the start button hole would match etc., still can figure out why the old one is cut out like it is? Ok soooo i guess i gotta take the plunge to get it to look better!!!!

its a real pain in the ass, but yes, remove everything

taping off the cabinet when you do the bondo work makes it easier and less messy

my start button ended up being about 3/4" off on the new overlay - did not discover this until i had done all the bondo work - this sucked, should have checked before i did all the other work
