Nov 28, 2023: A few days ago we ran a routine, minor upgrade on our SQL database. Much to surprise, we learned today that it prevented a number of our users from logging into our forums, or using other parts of our site. It turned out that the SQL database update took it upon itself to move it's configuration file offline. Without it, the site didn't work correctly, though it wasn't obvious since it continued to be used. The configuration file has been restored and hopefully all is better now.

CROSSBOW This is the second game i started restoring almost a year ago. It's taken this long to acquire the NOS control panel overlay (brick version). Crossbow holds a lot of memories for me growing up. I played it at Golfland in Escondido with my two best friends.

I want to say thanks to Dean (herbertsmart) for selling me the machine awhile back and giving me tips on how to get the sucker working. Also want to thank Ivan (forgot klov name) for the beautiful side art (blue version) And thanks to Allen (alejandromad) for selling me the NOS monitor bezel. And another shout out to Troy (takeman) for buffing that sucker back to near perfection (had one gnarly scratch)

Built brand new black melamine cabinet
Cleanup/restored inside guts: power supply, wire harness, PCB, etc.

Wooden gun stock was stripped to bare wood then stained and varnished. (had to do this twice because the first stain was too thin and the wood grain showed right through) Went with a cherry finish to compliment the reds in the artwork.

Removed the old yellowing plastic coating from the crossbow wire/cable (gives it a more authentic look i think)

NOS control panel overlay (would not stick so i applied new sticky backing)

Powder coated Orange/Red bolt

Stripped and powder coated metal parts, bolts, brackets, speaker mesh
Stripped and powder coated gun parts (BK-1 texture)
Rebuilt the gun components, optics, etc.
Coin Doors are new HAPP doors, the doors that came on my Exidy cabs were rusted and trashed. (and being my first restorations i didn't have any experience with coin doors yet)
Custom Exidy logo inserts and LEDs
New glass mirror (replaced plexiglass)
New T-molding
New Locks
New Vinyl Casters
New Power Cord
New Speakers
New Marquee Light Fixture/Bulb
NOS Marquee
NOS Bezel
NOS Control Panel Overlay
New Buttons
New Repro side art
New hand-cut matte board monitor bezel, side, top, etc.
NOS 19' Monitor - can't remember what brand at the moment, betson, kortec or vision pro
New coin door decal, (painstakingly redrawn exact exidy logo in illustrator and printed on vinyl)

That's realllllly good, but your photography is good also. Nice to see these games restored. Wish I could get you to do a few of MINE.

hey dan can you explain the process with the wood stock? im in the process now of restoring 2 wood stocks and would like to know what steps and products you used for it. what grade of sandpaper did you use to strip it? and hand or palm sander? When staining it, how many coats, what did you use to stain it and what stain did you use? When you painted the BLACK on the handle dwhat kinda paint did you use and did you varnish over that or painted after? i assume you varnished over it, i just thought id ask. How many coats of varnish did you use? what did you use to apply the varnish? to keep it so smooth, also what kind of varnish did you use? I hope i didnt confuse you on anything. i love how yours turned out and i want to do this to mine

thanks

black paint marker
clear coat everything (spray), light sand between coats

You'll need to just experiment, i did 2 different stocks and they both reacted differently to different grades. Watch out in the black section, you can sand the grooves right out if not careful.

Awsome what grade of paper did you use? Is that what you mean low.to.high?

Absolutely STUNNING !
If there were a 'league' for premier restorers, you surely are in strong contention :)
