I hope someone can help me?

I have a Crisis zone Deluxe with gun tracking problem...no matter how many times I try to calibrate the gun in setup menu it will not register it always says its off screen and I get no gun cursor at all.

I have checked all voltages replaced the gun board (inside of the gun housing), camera, gun lens and also the gun i/o board.

The only thing left that has not been replaced is the big sreen TV inside the cab.

Please Please Please help me get this running again?

The 50 inch Crisis Zone uses a camera tracking system. The gun projects an
infrared dot on the screen and there is a B&W camera in the pedestal that "sees"
the dot and passes that info through the IO board.

You can use a camera phone set to B&W and see if the gun board is transmitting
a beam.

If it is, then you need to verify the camera in the pedestal is working. If that is good
the it's the IO board.

I've seen cold solder joints on the connectors of the IO boards cause problems.

If you've replaced all of the above then it seems like you have a bad harness somewhere.

Thank you for the tips I will try the phone camera test.

Also how do I check that the b & w camera in the pedastal is doing its part?

If you have an older phone it should be able to see the iR beam coming from the gun. First try looking straight at the gun with your phone, if you see nothing try starting a game or putting the game into test mode and see if the output comes on.

Those gun cables are HIGHLY suspect especially if the steel cable is broken.

A newer phone will still see the iR output but it will be kinda faint.

I haven't worked on one of these in awhile, but the last machine I worked
on I disconnected the camera from the IO board and connected 12 volts to the
camera and the video output to a composite monitor.

You should see a black and white image of the projection screen (I think it's
actually upside down) and a blinking dot against the screen depending upon
where you aim the gun.

I need to find one of my older phones to test this dont think my iphone will work.

I will have to give this a try...thanks once I find an older phone to test the gun. If you recall can you tell me which wires do what to test the camera?

There is a wiring diagram near the back of the manual, the
color coding for all the connectors is there.

This is probably the best idea. I seem to recall the power wires being yellow and black and the video being a two conductor shielded cable. You should be able to leave the +12 and GND connected to the machine (so long as your getting power there) and just connect the video output to an old TV or any TV with a composite video input (the yellow RCA jack).

An iPhone3gs or older will see that iR beam plain as day. Newer phone, not so much.

I finally got around to this and the gun board test failed as I don't see any beams coming from the gun when checked with my Iphone and I also tried my Sony camera and again no beams.

Can you tell me how do I further test and troubleshoot the gun board before I move on to the camera test?
I've had this machne now sitting in the garage for too long with no progress :(

Please help.

Make sure that your iPhone and Sony camera can see iR light coming out of a TV remote. Newer devices have iR filters on them and they make it really difficult to see that light spectrum.

Its not out of the ordinary to have those gun boards fail. Whats really not fun about them is that they cost close to $400.00. Not for the entire gun, no thats $1200.00. The board ONLY! The gun harnesses are also prone to failure on that game but they cost $300.00... Or, you could rewire the harness leading to the gun board. You HAVE to use a shielded cable or stranded Cat5/6 wire. The bottom line is that you have to use some sort of wire that wont end up with cross talk (aka interference).

Is there suppose to be a beam coming out of the gun or TV remote? I tried on my tv remote as well and no beam...I need to find another camera and see if there is anything.

the light is emitted from the gun. Your not going to see a beam though, you need to face the camera directly INTO the gun and TV remote.

Ok I do see that when camera is straight at the gun and TV remote.
I was always able to see the guns red light since the guns lens is clear. So I guess this means it works?
Now I have to wait until next weekend to test out the camera. Where does the time go? :D.
Ill report back next weekend on the camera test.

Thanks gamerfixer

Any progress on this? I have a crisis zone thats driving me to the loony bin. Have double parts since I bought a parts machine and no matter what, I cant get this damn gun to register on screen. Always says "out of screen" in test mode. Every thing else on the game works fine. Pisses me off.

Believe me I know what your saying I've got the same tracking problem and I've got double of almost every part of this damn thing.

I haven't gotten around to looking at it lately with so many other projects.

I was trying to part it out but didn't get much interest so I may try to get back on it and see if I can figure it out, its only been a little over a year since I got it :).

I really want to get this thing working but so far no progress. :( , and this damn deluxe cab is huge and is taking up a lot of space.

Let me know if you make any progress.

after gun IR checked out, don't forget the camera position. even if it facing backward, the screws still fit on it. i've never had a broken camera in crisis zone.

another thing is, when you test the game, make sure you test it on dark room. never test it outdoor.

yet another one you should check, is gun parameter setting. try to play with the range value, and see if there is change in tracking reaction.

i used to have problem calibrating the gun, and use default setting for it. there's no default setting on calibrate menu afaik. what you have to do is remove the backup battery inside the pcb box. power up once and run a while, then turn off and on again. it should be default then.

Bump for this post- I have one of these too, same issue! Driving me nuts!

I simply cleaned the mirror, glass, camera and lens- that alone helped fix some of the tracking. Instead of having 2% chance of hitting the screen, it jumped up to about 60% and I was actually able to kill 2 guys! Then it stopped working again. I can see a dim red light emitting from the IR sensor in the gun (which appears to have been replaced) but it's very faint, not sure how bright it should be to the human eye. Does anyone have a proper replacement part # for this sensor?

I have not tried checking the beam on a phone yet, that's a good idea. I also have not checked out the harness. I also thought about bypassing the harness with a hand made cable to test it.

If anyone has had any real success fixing this yet, would love to hear your story.
