Credit Switch Placement

I have always wanted to get tokens and token mechs for my games but I probably won't ever drop the cash for it. Three of my five games can be set to free play (Pac, Ms. Pac and Raiden). For the other two (Super Pac-man CT and Donkey Kong) I have installed credit switches. I tried to hide them as well as possible. By putting the one for the Super Pac underneath the cabinet, you can't see it at all. Its located on the 2P side on the opposite end as the power switch. Very easy to get to and nobody would ever know its there. The DK one is more obvious. I put that under the control panel on the right side. You can't see it unless you lay on the floor. Both are pretty easy to get at locations.

I realize that I could have got the High Score Save kit with Free Play for the DK but that's money I don't want to spend.

Just wondering what you guys think of my placement of the switches and how you have done yours.

I think I would have gone with the "coin up" mod that someone came up with recently for about $20 or so.

Otherwise, I don't mind. Not sure about going under for the Super Pac, though. I would have just done what I did for a BurgerTime recently:

I could never get myself to drill a hole in a perfectly good cab.

I had a free play switch installed on my DK when I originally got it. They drilled a hole in one of the coin slots and placed a button there. I ended up filling the hole and getting a new coin mech.

Temporarily, I had the free play switch behind the coin reject button until I found a replacement coin mech. All I had to do was press the coin reject button and it would coin up. Not a bad solution if you don't want to drill any holes in the cab. The video of my DK on my website has me showing the button in use. It was right after I restored the cab and right before I got the replacement mech and a D2K Kit with the free play feature.

Most of my games are set to FREE PLAY... but for the ones who don't have freeplay or have some jacked version of freeplay (Pole Position, Capcom 19-in-1, Super Punch Out, Arachnid Super Six, etc) I use:

$6.99 at twistedquarter.com... they fit in the coindoor lock and I use industrial velcro to keep the doors closed... works GREAT. The only bitch I have is that the straight part on the lock is slightly curved requiring some door holes to be dremelled slightly.

I tried that with the Super Pac. It caused the game to lock up when the 2P button was pressed. I am positive that I had it wired correctly.

At any rate. I am happy with the switch placement. I thought I did a decent job of hiding them. I already had the switches, so it didn't cost anything.

The key switch is nice but I wanted to eliminate having to use keys. That's the main reason I did this in the first place. My daughter likes to run off with them.

I cant bring myself to put a hole in a cabinet, I can however drill or grind on coin mechs. Pushing the reject will trigger a credit.

I did this one for my Exidy Collexn, std mech and plastic reject button.

And this is in TRON, the reject button is the round metal style.

The first cab I ever owned was a Space Invaders that someone had rigged a switch to the bent speaker grill. It was at knee level so when u tapped the speaker with your knee it closed the switch coining up a credit.. I didnt mind as the cabinet was in pretty bad condition when I got it, and not having it on free play earned me a few extra brews!

this is how mine looked when we got it.

I've seen cabinets with regular buttons mounted in the middle of the coin door, control panel or wood above the coin door. Theres plenty of worse places to put one than what I used.

Totally agree with you there. Your placements are nice and stealthy. If I got one of those cabs I would leave em alone.

Freeplay with attract can be enabled on DK now with just a EPROM swap, thanks Souzilla!

See the little light left of the coin door on my Satan's Hollow? That was the previous owner's idea of a great credit button. It's a 2 inch square lighted draw poker button. I think it says 'DEAL'. As in the 'Real Deal', which is what this credit button solution actually is.

Those old leaf switch buttons will usually fit right in the lock hole in the coin door. I did this to get my games ready for CAX last year. I didn't want to do anything permanent.

This is what I also do on most of the games that need a credit switch. I rig something up so pushing the coin return racks up a credit. Completely hidden and completely reversable.

I've put them in the coin return slot, and in lockbar holes too. I really like using Atari cone buttons in the coin door lock hole. Fits nice and look pretty good. My Gyruss came to me with a red button right next to the coin door. I may fix that some day, but probably not.......

i use quarters, or in the case of my midway games, just open the coin door and hit the credit button. but there's something to be said about the sound of a quarter drop.

That's where my Gaplus has it, in the middle of the coin door. Looks like a previous owner just removed the service credit button off of the test switch bracket and mounted it between the coin slots (and also removed the coin meter in the process). I like the ones that have a door bell mounted to the front...that has fail written all over it :D

I agree. Just keep it all original and run quarters! The games mean more.
