I'm fairly certain I have a bad potentiometer on this Crazy Taxi but wanted to get some input first.

Looking in volume settings in manual is says i should be under 30H when released and over C0H when stepped on.

In volume setting mode I can get min 20H but only 46H max.

Accelerator pedal goes to c3H which is in range with the manual

Potentiometer bad?

It is a 5K pot, so if in doubt you can test it. It may need to be adjusted, the manual describes how to do this.

Monitor what pots are doing in Input Test in Game Test Mode. If ranges are not correct, you are not going to be calibrating anything correctly. Physical pot ranges are seen in Input Test. If its not correct there, fix pot issue. Verify 5v across pot. If good, with power off verify 5K across pot. If good, verify gear not slipping on shaft. Until this is corrected you cannot do calibration settings.

So I after some time with the easy out to remove stripped screws I got to test the pots. Throttle tests good as expected, and brake doesn't have enough range. 2.5k to 4.2k (vs .9k to 5k on throttle).

Good search led me to one vendor identifying it as for Crazy Taxi at price of $35.99. That seems insane for a 5k pot. Is there something special about it?

Will any garden variety 5k pot with 19/32"(15mm) shaft work?

I investigated this a while back, look here for a potential cheap replacement, I am still using this in my Outrun, although I don't play the game that often.

In any case, there is another cheaper replacement here (from a link in my thread):

One thing to try before giving up on that pot, and I learned this the hard way.

Oxidation and crap builds up on the interior and can cause bad readings. You can clear some of the crap off by rotating the pot shaft back and forth from one extreme to the other a few dozen times. Try that and see if it helps!

Usually that manifests with readings that jump all over when the pot is being turned, but I found myself unnecessarily replacing gas pedal pots in my Spy Hunter and this was the culprit. It's worth a shot, in any case.

You might even have luck opening up the pot and cleaning it with contact cleaner. I've done that on games before with moderately good results.

Any 5K pot with same shaft dims as original will work. Its just a 5K pot. The OEM Sega part is just a better pot. Thats why $$$.

Have a new pot on the way.

Another question on the same game. My yellow lights below the marquie. They don't work. I pulled the thing apart to replace bulbs. Bulbs were bad.

After changing I still didn't have any lights. Taking a look in the cabinet I found the 6 pin molex connector for the lights in with the crt. I cannot locate the other end of the connection. The manual I found for the game doesn't have any wiring schematics.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where this 6 pin connector leads to in the cabinet?

So I ordered the new pot and have it in. Went to calibrate and find the range it's reading isn't quite right.

Book says brake should be under 30H with pedal released and over C0H when stepped on. Highest I can get even with pot pulled is 76H

Next issue is my gas pedal is also activating the brake now. What in the world did I do???
