crazy climber joysticks

White joysticks...

There is a local near me who has a couple of Crazy Climbers... He's been installing the "Sanwa" joysticks with the white round top. They feel good and nobody would know that they were not originals... He says that with those sticks he can actually do better than with the originals. Not sure on that claim, but they do look pretty and work good, and felt good in my hands...

They probably look something like these:

We used orange joysticks on ours...

And I agree that micro-switch joysticks are the way to go... they let you hear when you have a good rhythm going.

Yep, the base mechanism is nothing like a normal Wico. They have the same loose feeling as the Nintendo's, and are quite interesting to rebuild....

I've seen a few pairs of original CC joysticks on ebay before.

They have all had a slightly different base that restricted movement in one of the diagonal directions. I couldn't tell WHICH direction is supposed to be restricted because they weren't mounted to the panel.

It looks like there is a metal stop that pretty much turns an 8 way stick into a '7 way' stick. Maybe someone has a photo to show what I'm talking about. The bases on mine are vanilla- plain Jane.

do you have a website or link that has these joysticks?

Is it like this one? This one has the black ball, but looks similar to the one in the CC link above.

I like the sanwa's a lot and I had original, but very sloppy joysticks. (saved them though) You can order a set from lizard lick and then just get the smaller white joystick knob and swap it in. Or maybe he'll sell you a set with the white in place already.

The only drawback with the sanwa's is the clicky sound, but the game plays great.

Here are pics of original Crazy Climber joysticks. I made new control panels to put Sanwa JLF joysticks in so I wouldn't have to mod the JLF joysticks like that tutorial on the web, but just ordered JLW sticks from www.lizardlick.com and they are drop in replacments. No modification necessary except to desolder the wires & add connectors. They're also stiffer than the JLF's and feel quite a bit more like the originals only they work much better.

100% thats the joystick that should be in the taito. The 3 that I have owned had those sticks in them.

If anyone needs two CC joysticks, I still have two installed on a CC CP that is available for a little $. :)
