One of those days where 'all seems right with the world'...

Score of 536,950! Whoo hoo!!

This is on standard settings, 3 men w one bonus at 30K. No recording other than me setting high score initials and these pics that my son snapped.

I think this is my highest yet. It's pretty rare for me to get even near this though. I think this makes my 2nd 500K+ game and only my 9th or 10th over 400K. I've probably got 50 games over 350K, but that's from my data going back to 2006.

Anyway- just thought I'd share :)

That is a truly awesome score Kerry! :beerchug: My son and I go back and fourth with the high score here and we are in the 300k-350k range. If you ever video your game play, we'd love to see a master at work! :D

Great score. How on earth did you avoid the falling dumbbells (or whatever they are) on buildings 3 & up? That's my one nemesis on that game.

Nice job -- that 4th building is a beast. I have only had 2 or 3 games total where I was able to successfully clear the 4th building. Like you said, everything pretty much has to go your way ... this game will brutalize you 90% of the time, but every so often the stars align and there are just enough escape paths to get to the top.

I had a game recently in the 450k range, but then someone knocked on my door and I had to go see who it was (normally, I would have simply ignored it but my daughter had friends over and I thought it was one of their parents).

I'll fire it up this weekend and see if I can throw some friendly competition your way. :)

Keep moving. Avoid them if you can by shifting around horizontally, but many times there is nowhere to go. The longer you go without making vertical progress though, the more objects you're going to have to avoid.

There are several locations on buildings 2, 3, and 4 where you're in a gauntlet two windows wide. You can usually avoid a single girder or dumbbell, but the right (wrong) combination of 2, 3, or 4 dumbbells just blocks your path.

Building 2 has sections where they throw two or three girders/dumbbells at you at a time. Building 3 has sections with two or three at a time.
Building 4 has sections with up to FOUR at a time, and that's in a narrow tower two windows wide.

But hey- if you can get past building 4, the next level is the same set of 4 buildings. You just start it with most likely fewer men :)

My grail gameplay with this game is to pass a set of 4 buildings without losing a man. If I can do that, then it will be proven that you could theoretically play forever. I've obviously passed each single building without losing a man, but never a full set of 4.

I would really miss this game if I didn't have it.

Oh- did I say that Gravitar is the bomb?

Damn, that's really impressive. Too bad you weren't recording, the world record dating back to 1982 is only 487K. I can sometimes get to the 4th building, but never with more than 1 man, and that stupid Crazy Climber sign always picks my side to come down :(

I'll tell you something- the kids had better have severed a limb or had some life-changing experience before I would have left that game...

Those signs on the 4th building are killer. You have to get by at least 4 of them. More if you dawdle. That part is completely by chance, I believe.

Sick score you gotta tape and submit I would love to see that Jim Wright score from the 80s beaten

Wait, there's more than one building?

Huh.

Tells you how good I am at Crazy Climber... :)

What's the trick to grabbing the balloon on the 2nd building? It almost seems like a tease which is impossible to obtain.

I can get to the 3rd building but I have yet to get to the 4th.

Not even worth it to grab unless you are in a bad spot with the girders (so thus assuming you haven't died up until that point on the building because I think they cease by then if you have). You don't get the points you would normally get from climbing.

Yeah- if you haven't died on 2 by the time the balloon comes, you are trying to dodge 2 girders at a time while trying to catch the balloon.

Don't try too hard for the balloon. If you hang around on a single row of windows, it will come down to your level. When it does, slide over to it.
If you chase it upwards, it will lift away each time. If you monkey around for 16 floors, it will go away on its own.

The balloon lifts you up 8 floors. You don't get a special bonus for catching it, but it does clock up the regular step points you would get by climbing those 8 floors.

The worst thing about catching the balloon is that sometimes it will plop you down on a window about to close without enough time for you to respond. It can also drop you right in the path of a falling girder.

I'll grab it on 3 if I can because it carries you up 8 floors through a narrow section with multiple girders falling. It can be helpful there.

Overall it's not worth the effort and danger.

I agree ... I find that staying on the far right side of the building gives me the best chance to get past this section, but it is still completely random. I guess the right way of saying that would be that the probability of success appears to be increased when I stay to the right ... could be just my possessed machine though.

Hey Kerry, I could really use someone with mad CC skills to beta test my CC high score save when it's ready. Would you be interested? The kit will be plug-n-play.

WOW ... Really looking forward to this!

I almost don't even want to turn my machine off after a game of 300k ... it's like it never happened. LOL

Played a couple games this morning to try to "push" you kstillin ... but my best game was only 268k.

Everything has to go perfect for me to reach the 400k realm and today it was not to be ... maybe I'll play a few more games this evening and see if my luck changes.

P.S. Still in awe of your 500k score ... seems like I'll never see that.

Wow, this would be GREAT! What kind of a mod is this? If it's just a rom mod plus something like a M48Z02/DS1220/Simtek I have a burner and would be excited to test it. I remember a web page where a guy had improved the high score entry code. I think there was something non-trivial about the mod due to the copy protection but I need to go find that page again because I'm willing to jump through a few hoops to fix that. Don't suppose your HSS would include this change too? FWIW, I don't care about the guy's mod to allow more than 3 characters.

This will be a module that replaces the encrypted CPU pack, so it's not going to be as inexpensive as some of the others I've done. Tim (arcadecollecting.com) was the one who made some code mods. Unfortunately, those mods introduced some bugs/instability. So I will not be using them. I will be allowing the full 10 characters for the name entry, simply because that was an option in one version, and it seems silly not to allow it. But I doubt I'll make any more changes beyond what is necessary for high score saving, unless I am absolutely sure they are stable.

So I could use a couple people to help with the beta testing (because I pretty much suck at the game). The beta testers will receive the kit at a greatly reduced cost. And having an EPROM burner is a plus, in case I need to send you a code update to test. But you need to prove first that you can reach the fourth building. :D These won't be ready for at least a couple months, so you've got plenty of time....
