So I call a dude yesterday afternoon from Cleveland Craigslist and ask him if the Q-Bert he has listed is still available. He says, "Yes." I say ok, "I will come and get it tomorrow if that is cool with you. And I would also like to take a look at an empty Defender cab you have listed." We discuss the cab a little, and he says, "cool."

So I call him this morning to get directions for the GPS cause I am a little over an hour away, and he says, "Yea you are the one interested in the empty Defender cab?" I said , "Perhaps, but I really want the Q-Bert." He says, "The Star Trek and Q-Bert sold last night."

Bullocks...

That is harsh!

I'm always nervous when I make a deal with someone and can't pick it up immediately. It's like a ticking timebomb. This happened to me last week, but it worked out. I was a wreck for three days until I picked it up. I was so sure someone was going to pick it up before me.

Same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. Contacted the seller at about 5pm, setup a time to see it the next day, got an email about 8pm saying it was sold.

The best I've had though was when I was trying to buy a game and I emailed him and he told me to come get it and gave his address. 7 minutes later he emails me again to tell me it had sold.

There is a lady who has a Pac-Man and Super Mario Bro's game for sale local. 1200 for the Pac-Man, and 1000 for the SMB. I emailed her and asked her how low she would go for the Pac-Man.. and she replied back 1000! I was like bwahahahha good luck with that. That's the shitty part about living where I do, all the games that come up are either riddiculously priced or newer era games.

that shit happens to me more than often. craigs list seems to be a breeding ground for assholes. nothing ever good comes of craigs list!

I would say that the guy probably did sell the game, but still had the Defender.

He may still have the Defender cab, but I am not driving all the way up there for a $25.00 empty cab with woodgrain sides. Though I probably would have brought it home with me along with the Q-Bert..

I have sold quite a bit of stuff via Craigslist, and conduct the sales as "first contact, first serve". I guess it is easier to go "first come, first serve".

I just refuse to hold games for people because they flake out so often. I've been burned to many times holding a game for someone and then having them never come through. So whoever shows up with the money gets it. There are exceptions when you can tell people are really cool though.

I had a guy on CL giving away a badass old leather desk chair, it looked like a gangster's chair. Anyone I email him and say ill take it if its available and my work looks to be very close to his house and can pick it up right now. HE emails back and says that he has had noone else contact him and i can have it but fails to leave info. So I respond back and ask for phone number or address so I can get it and then he messages me back and says its sold already. WTF!@!@!@!@!@ These emails all came within minutes. I was really pissed but what are you gonna do.

Truck + CL + HurryUpAndGetTheHeckOverThere = Great deals

+1 I've listed stuff on CL more than once and have people call me 10 min. later saying that they just had to have what I was selling and could we hold it till tomorrow. Their kid just has to have it, blah, blah, blah. Next day, no call, no show, no nothing. Money talks, bullshit runs a marathon. I just want to get rid of this stuff and move on. Not sit around and wait for someone to flake out on me.

Craigslist is way too accessible to the average Joe. It may lead to better finds, but there's just no flake filter.

If you're really interested, head over with the cash in hand immediately - first one wins. The seller is under no obligation to hold it..if he doesn't know you, how does he know you'll even show up? Too many flakes, and the guy's goal is to get cash quickly, hence the ad on Craigslist. I'd be disappointed, but that's the way it goes.

I found out about a Ms Pac, not working, $100 in a local paper one day while at work. I left work at 10am, immediately, and went to check it out. It turned out to be a steal - faded artwork, junky hasp bar, but all original, played blind, nice bezel and marquee, back door, manual package still stapled inside - prime candidate for a high level restoration/repaint.

Flyback was split...Bob R - G07 deluxe kit and about an hour of actual work = working Ms Pac.

Well we talked on the phone, made an agreement and all, but I told him that I was on my way to work (second shift) at the moment I called him in the first place. So unless he was willing to have me come at around 12:30 AM, he would need to wait til the next day, which was agreed to be around 1:00 PM today..

Oh well, I am really looking forward to have a Q-Bert in my collection, and at $250.00 this would have been a sweet deal... So having emptied the Explorer, filled her tank and carrying $ in hand, I call and he already gave it to someone else..... stung a bit..

Yeah, that was weasel behavior. Either hold it like you say or just say you won't hold it. People are unreliable. It's a sad fact.

To me if you want to sell it to however gives you the money first then state that in your ad. I've passed on many ads just for this reason. If we've set up a date and time then in my opinion you should stick to that.

...

In my opinion its your own fault. You have to expect others are gonna contact him, the way I see it - its first come first serve. Too many flakes out there, first one that comes with the money gets the game. Its naive to expect someone to hold the game for you, especially if its a good deal.

I've seen a few good deals on Craigslist... one by a local seller in Manassas, VA (Randy of Game Room Deals). It seemed like a really good deal $350 for a Galaga that was working. I don't have a pickup so it would take me a little time to arrange for pickup but I knew I wanted the game - didn't have to see it. So I called him up, asked if he would be willing to hold it if I could send him the cash by PayPal. I did so as soon as I got off the phone with him and called him back letting him know it had been sent. All went very smoothly and about a week later, I was playing Galaga.

Props to Randy - very nice guy to deal with and very nice deals.

We agreed, on the phone, for me to come at 1:00 PM today. What's naive about that?

Whatever, now the lawn is mowed; going to get a shower and then play some Robotron..

..

That has happened to me several times so basically if i want something, im there.
Its funny how arcade collectors have virtually no ethics when it comes to buying games. Ive seen people try to sabotage deals because they know they cant get the game. "Did you know that game is worth more?..." or "Those games bring more on ebay, you should ask more for it". Ive had that stuff happen while im loading the games.
