Craigslist searches will be less cluttered in San Jose now.

I've said it before : Multiboards are a cancer on our hobby. Everyone knows it's technically illegal to sell them, and illegal as hell to operate them. Glad to see Namco stepping up and enforcing their copyrights.

Now we just need to forward them all the multi builders across the country and shut them all down (saving thousands of actual classics annually)

WANTED!!! : DECO Cassette System Cages/PCB's - Amplifone M48AAW00X Tubes - Robotron Cabaret - NeoSaveMasta - PuLiRuLa PCB - Sailor Moon PCB

Pretty major operation. If I was running a 60-1 business I'd be highly alarmed.

Agreed. Sounds like a very vindictive prosecuting attorney out to make a name for herself.
She threw everything at these people from siezure of assets, property, bank account and 14 felony counts to boot. Sound like making an example to me.
I guess if you going to start a witch hunt you start with one of the biggest offenders that are nearest to the company with proprietary claim to the counterfeited material.
One thing is for certain is that it can and probably will be used as legal precedence for other cases in the future depending on the outcome.

If the prosecuting attorney really wanted to make a name for herself she should file a lawsuit against eBay (also in San Jose).
Ill bet Namco could pretty easily claim a ton of damages/lost revenue based on the amount of bootleg stuff they have allowed to be sold on their site.

Kingsley Chang is a member here. Good guy in my opinion.

I guess there is always a risk in selling other peoples IP though.

+1. I have met him a few times over the years. Very sad to hear he is going to have to deal with this. I am sure its going to get very ugly for them. I wish him good luck.

As for increased enforcement, I know an operator who complained to the city about guys operating illegal gambling devices. The police did not care as they are short staffed and did not want to deal with it. Short of running a slot or poker machine, I don't think there will be a crackdown on the multigames out in the wild.

The boards are Illegal and everybody knows it. Feel sorry for the guy if you like but he was breaking the law. I would guess most of the money and other things comes from something else other than 60-1's, unfortunately that's the risk you take when you break the law.

It's pretty common for a DA to throw everything they can at someone then just plea bargain down from there. My guess is a fine and 90 days picking up trash on the side of the road. This is really a low level crime.

With 1.2 million in cash seized I'd bet there will be some tax evasion charges added to the pile eventually.

Depends on how well they kept their books I guess. They owned a bunch of rental properties so a cash horde is a possibility to pick up some bargain rentals in a hurry. 1.2 Million is a dilapidated shack in some bay area neighborhoods.

I was watching a sports show last night and they were talking with a lawyer about how police can just take anything you have and you have 30 days to prove it's clean or you lose it. I had heard about it a while ago with cops shaking down people in az. I think Obama stopped the practice, but with trump it's back on.

They say cops are taking money from small business owners and the average haul is $8k. What do think they are going to do with$1.2 mil? Plus when they go after someone they freeze assets and you can't use your own money to defend yourself.

Agreed, and lots of the people that just do 60in1 sales are doing huge markups to take advantage of people who don't know any better, they just want to play the games from their childhood.
I don't necessarily feel sorry for them, but can see their thinking "why I am I the only one in the whole USA getting busted for this".

Sounds like they were selling more than multicades.

This was mentioned in the other thread in the NorCal section. I believe the source of this comes from them in the last year shifting to using namco artwork of Pac-man on their products with an alteration of adding buck teeth. no joke here either.

The multicades and software ,etc probably only strengthens their claim. And as crafty says, with the assists mentioned I'm surprised there isn't other charges being made like tax evasion, etc

Am I the only one who noticed that one of the defendants lives in Arcadia?
