so about two weeks ago i see a post some guy was giving away a game (for free) it was an older EM shooter only one photo and not much info but said he saved it from a park or something. so i emailed him with my number and info saying i would love the game. i dont hear back from the guy i guess i missed out. so two days ago approx two weeks later i get an email from the guy. here are the emails between the guy and myself.

my 1st email
i would love to pick this game up is it still available ? you can call me at 313 477 5346
thanks
tim

his 1st reply 2 weeks later
Hello, the game is available and being bid on, which stands now at $75, so high bid gets it. The game is complete, very good conditon, made in the 1950s, came from Edgewater Park in Detroit, and all lfunctions work except one.

Auction? Where what site and I will need to see more photos and know a little bit more before I bid so if you could tell me what does not work on this game and send some photos I would be more than happy to bid.
Thanks
Tim

Hello, Im just taking the highest offer on this machine. Theres just 7 other people interested and one guy offers $125 sight unseen. If you want it you have to bid. Im getting rid of it because of my wife.

Well I'm not biding without any info not sure why you can reply to my email but can't tell me anything about the game. Your 1st email you said it worked but one thing did not what is the one thing and you can't take a photo? I guess the guy for $125 wins I don't bid/buy anything without any info on it. I hope you get what you want sorry I missed out. But you can see why someone would not bid on something without any info at all ???

was i asking for to much all i wanted was a little bit more info. im not bidding on anything unless i know more about it. what sucks for him is i would have went as high as $500 if it was in good shape and intact but he would not tell me anything about it? i mean when he said everything works but one thing i want to know what that one thing is. it was shitty that he offered for free than renigged but i get it he wanted to make some money but why not tell me whats wrong with the game and post a few photos now a days everyone has a phone that takes photos or can up load a photo online pretty easy. not sure why this burned my ass so bad i guess its because i want a EM game bad and they dont come around all that often. ok no more ranting for the rest of the year lol

did he give you any info on it? as you could see from my email i asked him twice for any info thats the part that made me mad all he had to do is say what did not work.

Not to defend the guy, but a couple years ago I was trying to clear some space and posted some empty cabs for free in the Minneapolis CL, including an empty Tron and a mostly empty Burgertime. Within minutes, I had multiple cash offers to buy both, sight unseen if I would hold them. I ended up selling the pair to a guy (maybe a KLOVer) for $150. Was I wrong to not give them away for free as in my original post? I didn't ask for cash, but once it was offered, it was hard to turn down. Maybe this guy didn't know the value of what he had until people started making offers. I'll agree that he should have been willing to answer a few questions...

oh i have no problem with him selling it. its his right to change his mind but when i ask him more than once to tell me a little bit about the game and ask for a few photos and all he can say is i have others biding sight unseen. thats great that some people would bid sight unseen but if you are trying to sell something dont you think you would give as much info as you can so you maybe sell for a higher price? thats why i felt it was a scam.

oh and as far as turning off sent from my iphone, i will look into that lol i have no idea how to turn that off but i dont want to be that guy lol

Could have just told him you offer up to $500 if you like what you see, and offer to come by at his soonest convenience.

Yep. Same thing happened to me as well - regarding a $50 NeoGeo I was going to pick up. We had even agreed on a time for me to drive over and pick up the game. But no; he has to start up a bidding war. Whenever a seller does that, do not play their game. Stick to your original price with dignity.

Free = Free... If he changed his mind he should just pull the ad and relist it in a few weeks.

Its about integrity, you say an item is free, that is what it should be. This would be no different than you showing up to purchase a game and the guy saying I have a guy who offered me more money can you beat that bid? If he wanted to auction it off he should have put it on gamegavel or eBay.

I was "going" just give him something when I picked it up (if I was told it was mine) but NEVER offered $$$$$ when I told him I'm interested.

Oh and Tim, it's not worth $500!!! If it has problems then IMO (unless it's a rare EM) it's worth no more than $100 IMO.

i was just saying i had about $500 to play with but with no info at all i was not paying a dime also like i stated i asked him two times what was wrong and all he said was he is taking bids now. than threw out there that some one offered a bid sight unseen. again im not biding on anything without any info.

I would have saved all those key strokes and just told him to suck my chocolate salty balls.

IMO you are not necessarily wrong for taking cash for them if people offer. But here is how I would handle it in that scenario. If I posted them for free then I would give or sell them to the first one who responds. So if the first guy to call or email wants the free items for free then he can have them for free. If the first guy who contacted you wants to pay you for them then ok, he can pay you. Now if the first guy wants them for free but the second guy in line wants to pay $50 for them and the third guy wants to pay $100 for them and so on and you give them to the highest bidder then that is wrong IMO.
