Craigslist "people"...WOW

I guess I have been lucky so far. If I sell something on Craigslist, I will move the item to my bar. This helps because normally people feel uncomfortable there because it is in the ghetto and usually try to move on. I also do it because it is located near all the major highways in Cleveland. I usually give my cell or bar number out. The only problem I ever had is when I was selling a full size Rowe vending machine. Guy brings his little kid and then yells at me because one of the motors wasn't working. He says "What are you going to do about it?" I told him since he was complaining about getting a machine at 1/4 the normal price since I dumped it because i needed the room, I was going to tell him to leave, close my garage door, take a nap, and then call the person that offered me almost twice as much as he did the day after I agreed to sell it to him. He shut his mouth and took the machine while thanking me for not selling it to the other guy. I ended up getting the motor working. He didn't push the shelf in all the way which is why the motor wasn't working.

Wow... that sucks. No way in hell I would give out my work number.

On a preliminary communication, I like to give out my work number instead of my private number, so that if I DO happen to get a crazy, they won't have that bit of personal information to use against me. Doing so doesn't actually 'cause a problem for me, which makes the moron's tactics from this week all the more ridiculous. Despite what the loon apparently expected, neither a termination nor reprimand was anywhere close to being handed down to me. All he did was greatly enhance the perception that he was batshit insane.

goodness

I would watch your back up there at work a bit, that guy sounds six kinds of crazy. I have met some of the craziest people I have ever come across through CL. Some of it is funny at times, but there are also people that are downright scary. Seems like they are also into arcades- go figure.

Yo squatch, I spent 11 years as a Keyboard Commando. If you dont sell me that pinball and ship it for free I will blog this biatch all over town.... I will trash you on icq, yahoo, ask jeeves, and even a google banner ad lmfao!

I would have straight said "If you want the game its double price for yoU!"

I told reception to immediately call the police if something like this showed up:

I think most the crazy people in arcade situations are not really arcade people. They are trying to buy something to flip and when they don't get it they think you basically stole money from them they were counting on getting in a flip. Some resale types can be really aggressive (i.e. ***holes) and need to keep up with their medication better.

I think this is spot-on.

The few bad experiences I've had with people in this hobby have been with those looking to do nothing more than profit from it. They haven't been any type of true collector -- although some have claimed to be.

And while I don't know for certain, I'm pretty sure this most recent nutjob falls into that category. He found a complete, fully working pin in nice condition at a good price, and saw dollar signs in his eyes.

Wow...apparently he's not done yet.

When I opened my inbox this morning, I had e-mails from a couple friends telling me he had posted something about me on Craigslist:

HI Joey
just looked on Craigslist and this must be from your crazy guy in Knoxville? do you want me to flag it?

http://chattanooga.craigslist.org/tag/1640300351.html

and by the way--that picture looks nothing like you! at least he did not list your phone # for some more crazies to call you!

Your psycho from Craigslist posted saying he felt like he was cheated. I flagged it as prohibited so it should come down soon. Dude is crazy. Just a head's up.

By the time I got the e-mails the post was already gone, so I don't know the exact details.

I guess I should keep an eye out for more such "listings", eh?

(BTW, I don't even have the machine on Craigslist anymore. I removed it Wednesday.)

I got a little more info about what the pyscho posted on Craigslist:

man I should have printed it off--that guy sounded like a nut job for sure--he ranted that you would not get back with him on the sale of the pinball(about a paragraph long)--called you several names--even put a picture of a troll at the bottom and said it was you--he did put your email address on there but no phone #--the topic said something like do not buy a pinball from JOEY--

Wow man, sorry to hear. I would document as much stuff as possible before you forget like dates, time and content of conversations. I would also see if you could get a full copy of his post. I have a feeling you will be contacting the police and/or a lawyer in the near future. I'd watch my back with this guy because it is clear that he is seriously unstable.

Target/Walmart pre-paid cell phones are great for just this reason...

+1000

I was just reading this thread and thinking the very same thing. If I did more Craigslist selling, I'd seriously think of getting one.

Craigslist seems to be getting worse, lots worse.

You could always use a Grand Central number. It's now Google Voice but it gives you a seperate phone number you can have forwarded to wherever you want. That way you can at least talk to the person once before you decide if you want to keep talking to him. It's also a number that you can post in the ad itself if that's what you want to do. It's really easy to block people who are harrassing with their web interface.

In terms of calling people back, you can use it, but it's a lot easier to recieve calls.
