Craigslist or eBay?

well an auction compared to the price you want to sell it at outright is two diffrent things.

im sure he was willing to take a lower offer then $1400 and a hes hoping a $500 starting bid is low enough to get a few collectors in and build it up

Yes, obvious he will take $499 minimum. The reason for the Craigslist asking price, which is $1,000 higher is because there is a possibility that someone may think the game is worth that and since he doesn't have to pay listing fees there it is worth a shot to him.

Yup - that's a possibility.

But, if someone had bit at $1500, I wouldn't have held it against the seller.

I really don't get the point of this thread. Until the auction closes, it's impossible to assume anything. What if it sells on eBay for $2000? Then the CL posting was a bargain.

Every auction I've ever been to starts their items high, then the opening bid gets lowered until someone jumps in and starts raising the price.

eBay's different, since you don't have a live auctioneer. And schilling runs rampant. If he/she's truly wanting $1500 for it and is unscrupulous, the item will either get bid there or pulled before it ends.

I've seen tons of items listed locally on CL and on the 'bay. In this case I'd guess the person wants about $1000. The opening bid on eBay is just to entice someone to jump in. If they were confident in their condition, they'd leave the opening bid at $1 and set a reserve.
