If any of you here in minnesota posted this... i love you. hahahaha

If your selling a pinball machine do a little research.

1- Just because you have a pinball machine doesn't mean your sitting on a gold mine.
2- If it's not working it's not worth much If it's an EM (score reels and chimes.} under $100 a SS (digital) under $200. and trust me it's never just a fuse or an easy fix for somebody who know how to work on these things.
3- If you have a machine like El Toro or some Bingo machine check out this website IPDB.org and you will see the rattings on these games are very low and they are undesirable. worth under $100
4-- Listing your machine every other day or week at the same high price isn't going to help sell it. It just annoys people. Lower your price to a reasonable amount and you might sell it.
5-If your Machine has no backglass or a homemade one or the cabinet has been repainted it's worth under $75
6-Just because you seen a machine like yours listed on Ebay for some outrageous price doesn't mean it sold for that amount. And if it did It more than likely had been gone through by a tech or somebody just got ripped off.
7 Don't hack up a pinball machine and make furnature out of it and try to sell it for $400
Thanks and have a nice day

Here's a good CL post... vid, not pin... but sort of shows what you are talking about...

Donkey Kong stand up arcade machine - $500

Pertinent details from the post (so you'll understand why it's so valuable)

1. "Side stickers are 90 % there"
2. "2 coin mechs with one fully functional."
3. "...cigarette burns above the 1 or 2 player selection buttons."
4. "These refurbished games are holding their own on ebay for $1000."
5. "...the used condition gives this machine some charm of it's own."
6. "...missing some sound between board changes."

He closes with:
"I am not looking to give this away, these are hard to find. Do your homework..."

Things that make ya go hmmmmmm

Yeah, shouldn't be $500, but it's much better than the $2,500 MAME machines that look like someone shotgun blasted it with sticker shot.

If you're going to be a know-it-all asshole get your Mom to check your grammar first.

EDIT: That's right... I went there.

lol....i was thinking along those same lines when i read it. when i attack folks, i make sure it's not poorly written....it just looks silly if it is. ;)

Even up here we get people asking outrageous prices for stuff too....love the "all it needs is a fuse" saying too.So why not replace it then??? LOL

haha..

$500 for a DK should be legit.. unfortunately the market went to shit..
I could barely get 300-350 for my dk and dk jr machines..
sad really. but oh well..

i'll own one again someday. i can buy one complete cheaper than i can buy them in parts now a days. hahaha

looks like CL has become a forum.

lol

If your buying a pinball machine do a little research.

1- Just because I am selling a pinball machine doesn't mean I'm going to give it away. Lowball offers of $100 on complete games in nice shape are an insult.

2- If it's not working it could still be worth quite a lot. If it's an EM (score reels
and chimes.} the game will only require time, not money to fix, and Nice EMs can be worth $500 and up even non-working if in great shape. Digital games can be worth the same, or even more even if they don't work and are complete. Trust me, sometimes its just a fuse or an easy fix for somebody who know how to work on these things. It's the cosmetics that are important. Some game are extremely collectable. A non-working Fathom, for instance, would still be worth $1500 or so at least.

3- If you are buying a machine like El Toro or some Bingo ignore
this website IPDB.org. The rattings on these games are completely irrelevent and don't affect pricing.

4-If a Machine has no backglass or a homemade one or the cabinet
has been repainted it's worth under $75. Unless it's a highly desirable game or one of the hundreds that they have made replacement backglasses or translites for. Subtract only about $100 in value for most games from 1988 and newer for instance, since you can buy translites for most of them cheap.

5-Just because you seen a machine like the one on CL listed on Ebay for some
low price doesn't mean it sold for that amount. Don't send links of Ebay auctions to sellers as it is obnoxious. Many times the one on ebay is in bad shape, or doesn't work.
Thanks and have a nice day

This same ad was also posted on St. Louis CL. I got a good chuckle out of it. Some of the points made were right on.

Pinball Machine (to the original author) - $1000 (Bloomington)

think you forgot a little research
If your selling a pinball machine do a little research. 1- Just because you have a pinball machine doesn't mean your sitting on a gold mine. 2- If it's not working it's not worth much If it's an EM (score reels and chimes.} under $100 a SS (digital) under $200. and trust me it's never just a fuse or an easy fix for somebody who know how to work on these things.
So a non-working Medieval Madness is worth under $200? A non-working Joust under $200 as well? Is an MPU without acid not worth $150-$200 alone? A DMD display isn't worth $150-$200? Wow! I might as well just THROW AWAY a couple machines that are not working then ('cause one bad part makes the others worthless as well)
3- If you have a machine like El Toro or some Bingo machine check out this website IPDB.org and you will see the rattings on these games are very low and they are undesirable. worth under $100
I guess when most people didn't like a game, it has no value to those who DID like it and want one? Since when is the demand for arcade machines NOT driven by nostalgic needs?
4-- Listing your machine every other day or week at the same high price isn't going to help sell it. It just annoys people. Lower your price to a reasonable amount and you might sell it.
I'm sure it only annoys the few people who search ALL of craigs several times a day for the same thing and probably not the ACTUAL BUYERS who search for the first few listings
5-If your Machine has no backglass or a homemade one or the cabinet has been repainted it's worth under $75
If I ever repaint the sides of my Kiss, I'll understand that it's now worth $75. I now know that there is absolutly no way to get a re-stencil kit and 3 rattle cans to restore it. Thank you for letting us know that there is no way to get a new backglass for a machine and that Mayfair doesn't exist.
6-Just because you seen a machine like yours listed on Ebay for some outrageous price doesn't mean it sold for that amount. And if it did It more than likely had been gone through by a tech or somebody just got ripped off.
Better advice - If you don't like the price of something, DON'T BUY IT!
7- Don't hack up a pinball machine and make furnature out of it and try to sell it for $400
We all live in America with the freedoms of expression and a free enterprise system. I encourage EVERYONE READING THIS to feel free and make furniture and whatever out of unorthodox materiels. If people like it and pay you for it then kep it up. Again - If you don't like what's for sale, DON'T BUY IT!,

YOU FORGOT NUMBER 8
8-Just because you know all there is to know about pinball machines doesn't give you the right to try and regulate the craigslist community. It certainly doesn't give you the right to publish outright FALSE information and bully people into believing that their games are worthless so you can pick them up cheap and resell them on ebay '

This has been a public service beat-down by an honest pinball reseller to remain un-named.

I think it sucks when stuff like this is going on. Really clutters up the listings with pointless diatribe. To me, the reality is that Pins are sort of a dying breed right now. A lot of times, if I can find a machine locally that I want, even if it is listed above the current internet market price, I always go take a look. Often times you can negotiate the price down, and at the end of the day, it doesnt matter how many pictures someone sends you, seeing the machine in person is always better. Not to mention you save money, and hassale, of getting it delivered and you negate the risk of any shipping damage.

I tend to agree with the "You dont have to buy it" statement. If you dont like the price, make an offer. The reality is, no matter what the price, each persons value of an object is subjective to that person only. I think the real failure is everyone thinks Craigslist should be full of OMG deals, which is just as unrealistic as those asking double the going price on the open market for any object.

i agree. it sucks to see this.

and if anyone knows..you never talk numbers over emails. you go and inspect the machine and perhaps bring the cash that you want to pay for it. and offer what you feel it's worth... it might be $500 less than what they're asking.. but you'd be amazed how quickly someone will take an offer when the cash is right in front of them. :-D
