So a local guy listed 5 or 6 stools for $80 foe the lot. I contact him saying I'll take all six an pick them up tomorrow. He says he had to look for the sixth after work. I say no problem. Hours later he sends a text while I'm cookin dinner for my kids and says he only has five, do I still want then. 20 minutes later when my hands are free I say yes, and he tells me he sold them! WTF.... 20 minutes.
People are assholes!

Craigslist rule: You snooze you lose, no matter what you may promise. I've heard every excuse regarding why people change their minds. Everything from wife problems (she *decided* he shouldn't buy it) to money problems, to simply letting a person sleep on a deal. Generally speaking, when 24 hours elapses, the odds of the deal closing become less & less. YMMV

Yep, first person there with money in hand gets the deal. It is indeed you snooze you lose.

I have bought plenty of things on a tuesday where the seller said "some guy said he would come pick it up saturday" and I replied with "I can pick it up right now". Right now always wins.

I tried that one time when the guy told me he was holding the game for someone. He told the other person he would hold it for 1 week and stood to it and told me I had to wait. I told him I could pick it up that day and if I had to wait then my offer would go down, he argeed to my offer if the other guy did not show. About 5 days later he emailed me and told me the guy showed up and took the game.

Yeah, that happens too sometimes. But the core lesson on craigslist is to move fast, both in initial response and in pickup.

craigs here is the same way. Plus we have a local pin reseller who both spams the hell out of craigslist and buys up every deal there is to be had.

"I have cash and can pick up right now" will always win.

One of my last pinball machines I posted on craigslist. First response I got was the guy I sold it to. But he also offered what I was asking and could pick up the earliest. I got another ten or so emails after his , some I didn't bother responding to. Probably the funniest was from a "pinball expert" who proceeded to almost lecture me on the condition of the machine with some BS about because of some cabinet fade he'd have to redo the artwork. Followed by a low ball offer 500 bucks less than I wanted. Wonder how much luck he has buying machines.
