For the 1st time I put a game on Criaglist. I noticed people have the same listing under several headings. Games/toys, vid games, electronics etc. How do they do that? When I tried it I got this said "similar post" ......
Also I got this as a reply to my add.

That's great, thank you for getting back to me. Though I'll be using
the services of a mover who will come for the pick up of the item on
my behalf all because I'm currently away for a contracting Job but I
will send a Check through my Bank to cover the cost of the items. The
check will be delivered to you by a reliable courier company within
2-3 working days. Please do provide me with your full mailing address,
and also indicate your final price, the Name that should be on check
and finally a cell phone #. Kindly delete the posting because am
serious in buying it, when the funds clears then we can arrange for
the pick up asap.

Regards

He did not sign his name and in my instructions I asked that the people send me their phone number and best time to call. (Got that idea from a person on here) Sooooooo is this a scam? He did say when the check clears. Wife say scam. He has never seen the game in person. If it is a scam what is the scam?
Thanks
Bill

I would say it's a scam. It look like a form letter that he sends out to everyone in hopes of getting a bite. I think this is the one where the check will initialy clear but then later will come back fake and the bank takes the money out of your account. In the mean time you had already sent your "item" through his shipper with no way to contact this guy. Stay away from this one Bill

Remember... CASH ONLY. Be clear about that in your post and add something along the lines of "Cashiers checks/personal checks/money orders WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED" and you tend to filter out many of the scammers... at least in my experience it does.

You can have fun with the guy... cause them expense too. Simply give them instructions to send the fake cashiers check to your local FBI office address...

I did that with a scammer I had. I gave him the name and address of the local police department. And I know he had to spent money on UPS sending the scamming check.
I remeber the guy kept emailing me asking when I am going to get a check back to him, and the trucking company was waiting for me to answer. It was awesome, cost him some money.

Nice. Even if all you do is waste a little of his time, you're doing the world a service by keeping him from doing something else for a few minutes.

Listen to the wife - she knows what's up here. SCAM! You have a few choices:
1) Let him send the check, then play with him, pretending you never got it (don't try to cash it, it's fake, and you don't want to commit fraud). Tell him the check got wet in transit. Tell him the bank refuses to cash it, basically, do anything you want to waste his time and/or money.
2) Contact the local PD (either where you are or where he is, if you can find out where he is) and ask if they want him. Then you can work with them.
3) Ignore him.

definately a scam. what happens is, he sends you the check and then wants a mover to come and pick up the game fast. 2 weeks later the bank calls you to tell you the check is fake and he has your game !
some scams even send you a check for a 1000 more and want you to send them the difference.

have fun with him, waste his time as much as possible so he cant scam others.

And don't forget when they send you the check that will be 10 times more than what your asking for, they will tell you to take extra money out for yourself, plus the price of the game. Aren't they just so generous..........

It is even worse then that.... They want to pay you too much in the check so that you can pay their shipper. So you go out of pocket real money since you think the check cleared. They get your game and your money. This scam has been discussed many times on here.

Do people really fall for these things? Give me a break they talk about your "item" or your "product." Real people say "hey when can I pick up the arcade game?" Or "I'm getting paid in a week I'll have the cash then."

I think the anti-scammer plans are quite humorous though. I get 3 or 4 spam messages for every stupid ad I post. Guess it comes with the territory. I love the "are you having financial troubles? I can help you sell this item." So stupid...like a spammer is going to get my life straight hahaha.

Ignoring the obvious scam reply you got. Do you really want to spam craiglist?
That really does not help you sell.

I just simply forward the email with full headers (routing information on every email, but is normally hidden from view) to the abuse@ whatever email provider he/she is using.

Write in the email this information:

Hello, here is an email from a scammer that is using your system. Please terminate the offending account per your Terms of Service Agreement. Thanks!

So if it's [email protected] I forward all the info to [email protected]

:D

You'll get a form email back stating that they have "looked into and have taken appropriate action against the account" and that they "cannot tell you what the action is" because of their privacy policy. But, if you try to send emails to that address you'll see that the address doesn't exist any longer.

I've done that to more scammers than I care to remember... well into the several dozen.

heh, I listed some stuff on Craigs list last month (Roof Trusses, Commercial incubator, upright freezer, all in separate ads, 2 in Gainesvile, the other in Jacksonville) within minutes I got hits on all 3, all from the same scammer. had identical messages, right down to the name at the end, and each came from a different g mail addy

I would turn them in and suggest the look into the account that gifted all three accounts.
