I purchased a CR7000 a few weeks back and used it for the first time today on a Matsushita. The unit seem to work fine, but unfortunately all it told me was that there was a G1 short to the blue gun. I tried removing the G1 short several times, but no luck. The manual indicated a spark should be seen as the short is removed, but I did not see one. Assuming the CR7000 is working correctly, there must be a mechanical short which cannot be removed.

How would I validate the CR7000 is working correctly? I didn't see a self-test procedure in the manual.

I do have to say one thing. The documentation for the CR7000 is fantastic. It's easy to understand and it is laid out in sequence hence it starts first with setup, then tests, and finally the restoration procedures.

I'd try it on a couple tubes.. sometimes shorts can't be fixed.. Find some really crappy tubes and practice on them.. then step up to your keepers..

Great piece of equipment you got there..

thanks local413 ... I guess I could run just the tests on a working tube to validate its working ... testing the tube shouldn't cause any problems ...

Welcome to the club.

And I agree. Test a few other tubes. If they all have shorts then there is an issue with the unit. Sometimes they just can't be removed.

The one thing that wasn't clear to me in the documentation was that during restoring/rejuveing you press the button and hold it. It automatically cuts off after the correct amount of time. Then release the button. I thought you had to time it yourself. Easy to use and nice equipment.

Here's my understanding. Wait for the ready light to go on. Once it's on, press and hold the "hold to restore" button. When the ready light goes out, release the button. Each test runs only for a certain length and holding the button in does not make the test run longer. There may be an exception to this rule for some of the restore functions (rejuv & extended), but I'm not certain.

Yep that's how its done. I thought you had to time it yourself so I was counting in my head. :)

Took me a few tries to figure it out at first.
