I put this together to easily reference tubes when at a thrift store or recycling place. The "23" tubes should work on WG4600, WG4900, and G07 chassis PCBs. If you are lucky enough to find a "24" it might work in a WG6100.

Does anyone have a doc or info around what the letters in the tube name mean? I get that 48=48cm, but what does the rest of it mean. Also the change from CR23 to CR31, was that an evolution in tube design, or was there another difference?

A48 is 19" tube and will fit in an arcade monitor frame. A51's will not as they are 20"
CR23\24 is a 10 pin tube, CR31 is an 8 pin small neck and will work with most WG7000's.

Not a bad start, but this is by no means ALL of the "23" tubes that can be used. you didn't include any of the 19's like 19VKMP22 or some others that might not start with 19 or A48 but are still 19" 23's (or 24's)...

Yeah I just took these from the B&K list. Is there another list I can add from?

Newb here,
SO you can scout thrift shops for 19" Tvs and if the number (I assume on the back of the Tv) matches one of these you can just swap the tube with a burned in one or something?

Is there a thread I can go to find out more information. This sounds awesome :).

That is correct. Just Google "tube swap". There are a few sites showing how to do it. Main thing is to be careful removing the convergence rings and making sure the yoke matches the chassis.

Yeah, thats the part I understand..Do the letter codes mean anything? I though I had read somewhere they did.

might luck up like I did this past weekend and find a CR23 tube that has a near exact match for the 4600 yoke resistances. I should be able to swap the tube right into a game with no convergence work. Wish I could find a dozen more of those for $5/ea

I found 3 CR23 tubes at the thrift store but they cost me $36. Still not bad for 3 burn free tubes!!

I took this list to a thrift store today and was actually able to read the tube # off of one through the vent slots and match to this list. Got it and a 2nd CR23 fat neck tube for $15. Neither appears to be a direct swap, so I'll probably try using both of these for G07 transplants.

See my tube swap guide and the donor TV list in my sig! If you buy any TVs that are suitable donors and not on my list, shoot me a PM with the make, model, tube #, and if you can, get the horiz and vert impedance (ohms) readings off the yoke. (Horizon is the blue/red wires, the other two are vertical).

As for scouting TVs at thrift stores, pick up a cheapie white led penlight as they seem to work good in looking through the vents. If you can read the tube # through the vents, verify it begins with 19 or A48. If its A51, no good (20in tube, not 19).

Next, look at the neck. You can generally tell the difference...a neck thats about 1.5in thick is a CR23, if its closer to 1" its a thin-neck (CR31). **NOTE that many K7000s use thin-neck tubes, so if you have a burnt K7000, that could be a possible donor for it.

The tube swap guide on my site is pretty involved, worded simply, and is based on buying a tv at a thrift store :) Only thing I don't have on there is yoke swapping, cuz..well yoke swapping sux :) I have to have one to do so I can get some pics for that part.
