So this was posted over at neo-geo.com, but looks like we are getting very close to having a means to revive dead CPS3 carts.

http://forum.arcadeotaku.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=21688&start=60.

Scroll down to the bottom of the thread, and there is a bit of explanation afterwards.

Very nice stuff, especially for those with dead CPS3 games. Wonder what this will do for Third Strike pricing and such?

I've got a handfull also... I'm stoked!
(all of those dead cards from the Fresno raid seem like a great pickup now....)

So what all is involved with this? To my understanding only 2I can be done at this point and it's dependent on the chip on your cart. Is the process something simple enough that most people could do it?

Btw, I understand if you don't want to share to many details based on your agreement with Leo and idc.

I have a dead Japanese 2I. Is it possible to run 3S on it with this fix?

Worse comes to worst, I'll just revive it to play 2I. :p

People are already snapping up dead carts on Ebay... unless it's someone here. LOL

I still don't understand why Third Strike mobos + ram still go for this much especially with darksofts converter that allows 5/6 security carts to play any game provided they have enough ram.

CPS3 prices should should go down if all these security cartridges get revived. On the flipside, I can see them increasing if some smuck hoards all the security cartridges.

But people who already have complete CPS3 setups and a dead cart will not need to buy these revived carts if they know that they can just revive their own. Why buy a revived cart if you have one you can revive yourself? I can see people without soldering experience, or those who have a CPS3 motherboard without any cart, willing to pay for revived carts though. Right now dead carts are more desirable because the CPS3 userbase is becoming aware that they can revive the carts. But a sudden influx of revived carts on ebay may just sit after a while once people figure out they can fix their own.

I think people who don't even have a CPS3 setup at all will be the ones still willing to pay a few hundred for a working setup. Especially if they know they can play any of the CPS3 games and versions, given their pcb has enough ram installed. So maybe prices for complete CPS3 setups might even increase because right now it seems potentially all setups will be able to play all CPS3 games. The only missing piece will be having enough ram to play 3rd Strike.

I can see the price going down a bit, a lot more working games will suddenly hit the market. Not sure on the actual demand of the game though, seems a lot of people stayed away due the nature of the hardware. Now that may not be an issue anymore, the demand could go way up. I think the demand won't last long however, as people who want the game will buy it and it will level out. So I could see the price stay the same, or increase for a short period of time, then level back out or come down.

Probably a slight bump in price just due to the excitement. But there are so many dead carts out there I can't see the value staying high forever, especially when any cart can be converted to any other game. Motherboards might stay high(er) depending on how many are out there.

I am cautiously optimistic. The only game that is able to be revived is 2I. I have read that the reason that it was relatively easy to revive 2I is the same reason that Darksoft's converter does not work with 2I. So it is possible that we will be stuck again for awhile. I need to see the other games revived before I can rejoice.
