CPS2 suicide?

Thanks tyranix95! Those videos do make it look easy! Just for reference, is this the battery that I would replace it with? Or do I have this wrong?

The original MAXELL Lithium Thionyl Chloride Battery Specs. are 1/2 AA 3.6V 1,100mAh AXIAL. (http://biz.maxell.com/products/industrial/battery/er/index.html.)

And the SAFT LS14250 Lithium Thionyl Chloride Battery Specs. are 1/2 AA 3.6V 1,200mAh AXIAL. (www.hollyhockbatteries.com.au/LS14250_datasheet.html.)

So the SAFT battery is actually just as good if not a little better than the OEM MAXELL battery.

So far, I've used TADIRAN TL-5902 series batteries on all my CPS-2 boards. And these batteries have the same specs. as the ER3 and the LS14250-- 1/2 AA 3.6V 1,200mAh.

The specs for the TL-5902/P battery are 1/2 AA 3.6V 1,200mAh AXIAL. (http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/TL5902.pdf).

IMHO, you can select what ever replacement battery meets the ER3 specs., and is available to you at an affordable price, and you are comfortable working with, and you like looking at on your board.

Hope this info helps.

It is super easy, don't be discouraged. The tools are basic, and it's harder than you think to screw it up.

Just don't cross the streams. It would be bad. ;)

WTF with some people acting like elitist dicks over a simple question/situation? He isn't comfortable doing it, so help him out or stfu.

Have you had this problem sosage? Which option did you chose? or which would you?

Battery swap. Cheaper. Easier. Still have the original roms. Just requires keeping track of when you changed the battery and if you need to perform another swap.

Yeah, IMHO, if you have a BATTERY board, then replacing the battery is the way to go.

But, IMHO, if you have a DEAD board, then PHOENIX roms are the only way to go.

A PHOENIXed board is not perfect--compared to an BATTERY board--BUT it is way better than a DEAD board. ;)

Thanks guys for all the help, I'm sending it to Radford119, simply because I don't trust myself to do it. Those who will laugh, will laugh, but at least I'll be sure to get a working game back!

Now next on my list of things to do is to find a newer supergun because mine is on its last legs... (almost 7 years old.)

However it seems they are few and far between to come by, and the ones on eBay look like overpriced junk.
While I don't mind spending money for quality, I'm not an idiot.

Since getting a replacement is in your plans, you may want to use this as an opportunity to learn how it works and how you might fix it. You could wind up eventually comfortable enough to tackle other issues that you run into. If you're worried about ruining your old supergun trying to fix it, well, at least you planned on getting a new one to replace it.

Yeah the supergun I don't really mind screwing up.... I have high-quality ABC fire extinguishers all over my house for just this purpose! ;) And I know I can get a replacement.

The game I am very uneasy about messing up because finding a US version of one of my favorite games was a real chore and took over four years!

And the guy I originally bought it from hasn't seen another one since.

Now some might argure that since I value it so much I'm a moron for sending it to a guy on these forums that I don't know.

But I am trusting that he is an honest person, and if he isn't honest well then I'm trusting some local strongmen in his area will go get my board back for me if I slip them some dollars! :D

When you replace the battery, since you're tech-challenged, have whoever is doing it install a BATTERY HOLDER... you can then replace the battery simply by popping in a new battery rather than soldering another one in.

The more you hang around and read, the easier this stuff will become. CPS-2/Superguns are really good gateway drugs to this hobby. Neither are very complicated compared to the other stuff and can help you ease in.

You'll also find that XSF is an easy board to find (I think that guy might have been BS'ing...but maybe he really hasn't seen one in a while). Search for the CPS price guide Prairied and a few of us put together on these forums.

Radford119 has a good chunk of positive feedback here, so I wouldn't worry about it. I've never dealt with him though. *shrug*

I'd vote against this; if the battery pops you could be out big money. And how often do you have to do this? Every 5 years!

I didn't even know such a thing existed! Thanks for the tip! Will do!

Okay I was all into FrizzleFried's suggestion, now I'm unsure again. LOL

D-Cell battery holders have nice firm clips... the chances of a battery dropping off is slim to none unless you're throwing your B-Board around and smashing it off the wall.. then there MAY be a slight chance.

If you're that worried all it takes is a single nylon-tie and you you're golden.

EDIT: I can't remember if the battery is D-Cell or C-Cell sized... but my suggestion above still applies.

I don't use the holders anymore because the terminals become corrosion points in themselves. With the axial batteries all you need to worry about is them dying and then leaking. More to worry about with the holders.

aren't the battery holders running 3V and the stock batteries 3.6V?

It's really not hard at all to solder a new battery in. Order it and anyone can do this for you.

I ordered it from ConsolePassion in the UK (at the time, that's the only place I could find a US board believe it or not! LOL) They still have Out of Stock on their site for XvSF.

I see some on ebay, but some were non-working... and the serial numbers on those boards are higher than mine. ;)

How do I check feedback for a user, or did you not mean that literally?
