Hi - I have a CPS2 board that is not phoenixed but appears to be malfunctioning due to some corrosion on the board (no where near the ROMS). The game is Mighty Pang (with English ROMs) and I would like to save it. Would it work if I simply transfered the ROMS to a spare X-men board I have? Would that phoenix the board (if so - not a bid deal as long as it works).

Any input would be great.

Thanks

You need to do the following from the new board:

1. Remove the battery
2. Short the small electrolytic capacitor next to the battery for a few seconds to drain the charge from the chip and wipe the decryption table from memory.
3. Cut and/or solder the appropriate numbered jumpers on the board to reconfigure it for the ICs being moved over. Just look at the old board to see how they are cut and/or jumpered.
4. Move over the EPROMs, mask ROMs, and PAL chips.

If it doesn't work properly then check to see if an EPROM has gone bad or that you inserted all the chips properly. Double check the solder jumpers to see if you missed soldering one or missed cutting one.

RJ, I think you missed the part in the orginal post where he said the Mighty! Pang isn't Phoenixed. Your steps obviously won't work on a board that hasn't been Poenixed.

I also don't think Mighty! Pang has a Phoenix set available, it certainly isn't in the easily found MAME Phoneix sets. The OP should contact raz ([email protected]) to see if there is a set available (unless channelmanic has them, I know he is approved by raz for doing Phoneix's here in the US).

Brian.

Oops... yeah, I missed that part.

Contact Raz at the email addy above to see if he has a suicide fixed ROM set for that board. If not, you may be hosed.

Mighty pang and Puzzloop 2 are both phoenixable now so he just needs to get ahold of the fix.

Only a handful of obscure games that can't be phoenixed now.

Really? I contacted raz about 7 months ago about purchasing Phoenix code for my Puzz Loop 2 (it's the only CPS-2 board I have that isn't Phoenixed) and he told me (from my email) :

This game is currently not fixable once it has suicided sorry.

Subject: Puzz Loop 2 Phoenix ROMs

Hi,

I have a Puzz Loop 2 that I would like to "phoneix". I have the ability to burn replacement ROMs, so could I purchase the phoneix edtion and save on the shipping? If so, what would the price be?

Thanks,

Brian Stallman

I guess that he worked out how to get it done. That's good news. :)

Brian.

Are all the boards revisions compatible with all games?

I had a Hyper Anniversary die on me.(pcb 93646B-4)

I moved the pal and set the jumpers on a (93646B-7) and it didn't seem to work.
The board stays on the ram test.
