Hi All,

I'm a complete novice so bear with me if I'm asking a really stupid question!

Got a cab with a SuperSF2 (It's CPS2, think it's 'New Challengers')

Now I want to buy some Jamma PCBs, so how does that work? Do I need to buy a harness or a board holder or will it just fit into the current system?

Only ask because I see loads of stuff about A & B boards and mothers etc. And I don't understand any of it.

Also, if I do remove the CPS2 cartridge, will that increase the risk of it 'suiciding'?

See told you it might be a stupid question )

Thanks in advance

I have multiple CPS2 games that I don't use regularly. there's not much to understand about CPS2, other than there are two halves that makes a CPS2 game work. the actual "cartridge" half of the CPS2 is the "B board" (contains the game ROM content), while the main hardware base is the "A board" (the part that supplies the JAMMA and extra input connectivity, sound hardware, CPU, etc.)

the battery is stored on the B board and if you run the game on a regular basis it will use the battery less. I did battery replacements on both my Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 with success, I have to do my Alien vs. Predator someday soon.

as far as replacing the board (I use that loosely, since it's technically two interlocked board halves) with other games to play, it's as easy as unplugging the JAMMA harness from it and plugging it into another game. Happ makes adjustable PCB holders if you ever want to swap game boards easier... otherwise you do what I did and make your cabinet's wooden mounting board look like swiss cheese like I did. :)

I think that answers everything. if your SSF2 board is in something of an unknown condition as far as the battery's age, I would strongly encourage performing battery replacement on it.

One other thing to consider when swapping out boards is the CPS2 games do not use -5vdc but many other Jamma games do. If your cabinet is not already wired for -5vdc you may have to add one wire from the power supply to the jamma edge connector.

it.

the problem with thoes damn adjustable mounting barckets is they only work with single pcb boards(will work with a few multi pcb boards depending on the connector locations)

and they dont work at all with the cps2 boards

i have one in my sega stv duramold (i use as my jamma rig)and i had to mount it on the back door and there are only like 4 boards i have that i can use it with and still close the door or have enough faith that once i close the door it wil stay in the holder if i move that beast

i may end up jsut screwing a wooden panel to the door and deal with the swiss cheese

yeah, I made the mistake of buying a whole mess of them for my Multi Kombat project. MK2 said "no bueno, son!"

so really, I might as well just put together a for sale thread on here.. time to start parting with some of this stuff.
