I'm trying to revive a Marvel Super Heroes B board that either has a bunch of bad mask ROMs or the jumpers are wrong. Anyone know of a place to find the jumper settings for these games? I put SFA2 software on the board and its fine (both games are running Phoenix versions).

MSH has screwed up sound and graphics which leads me to believe that the jumper settings are wrong (they were changed before I got my hands on the board).

Google didnt turn up much in the way of help.

Found an .xls file that indicated where the jumpers should be for each game. Still didnt help and I cant for the life of me figure out how to read these mask ROMs with my GQ-4X to verify them against the MAME ROM files.

MSH jumpers for PAL-F board.

Yup, thats what I found out on the spreadsheet. They were no where near that when I got the board though.

I suppose theres a chance that one of the program ROMs didnt burn right but I dont think that the game would boot if one of them was bad.

MSH and SFA2 use different Pals and jumpers.

If you want to run MSH on that board you need to burn a new Pal and
move the jumpers on roms 14,16,18,20 from Vcc to A20

If you have to cut the trace to open the jumper up, DOUBLE CHECK IT with an ohmmeter to make sure you cut it all the way. I had a microscopic sliver left on a board I worked on and it drove me nuts.

Did all that already.

Both B boards run SFA2 fine. Both B boards run MSH with messed up GPX and SND. Like I said, I think I might have some bad mask ROMs.

Are you also switching from Pal-D to Pal-F ?

I'm moving the three PALs on the B board from board to board if thats what your asking.

But, from the looks of things I only need to move the PAL at location 9J. Is that the case?

EDIT: The PAL that came with the MSH board at location 9J is an G I believe. The sticker on the IC says "BGSB3G" so I'm guessing that this is the wrong PAL for this game.

Time to buy a blank PAL and burn one I guess. Ugh!

Thanks for the help guys.

Hmm... Had another thought here. WHAT IF... WHAT IF whomever was screwing around with this board before me put this B board back into the wrong game cartrige cover? IE, what if this B board is actually NOT MSH? All of the program ROMs already had their stickers pulled off so all I can go by is what the guy said the game was.

But ALL of the mask ROMs say "MVS-XX" on them. Wouldnt that be Marvel vs something???

I think it might be time to reprogram the game ROMs and see what happens. Based on the PAL being an "G" I'm going to go with Marvel Vs Capcom.

EDIT: Well, according the MAME file the mask ROMs are in fact for Marvel Super Heroes vs Street fighter based only on the naming scheme. Since I cant seem to figure out how to read the mask ROMs I cant verify them against the MAME files. Burning new ROMs now...

It looks like someone did some parts sacking and sold you a Frankenfuck board.

Seems like you have a random Pal-G, Marvel vs SF mask roms...and who knows what for program roms.

Frankenfuck, I like that!

I'm going to reburn the program ROMs and see what comes of it.

I guess the easiest thing to do is reburn the program roms as MSH v SF and re-redo the jumpers for MSH V SF as well. Unless you REALLY want to play the original MSH.

According to the doc I found online the jumper settings are the same for both games.

I've got one more program ROM to burn and I should be able to see whats what.

Well, burning the program ROMs as Marvel vs Street Fighter fixed the graphics but the sound is still messed up. I'm thinking that it has something to do with the incorrect PAL at 9J (its got a G and is supposed to have an F).

Huh...

Thanks again for the help guys.

PAL F = 16Mb Q-Roms and 32Mb Grafx-Roms

PAL G = 32Mb Q and Grafx Roms

If you have a 27c322 handy you can merge the two Q roms and put it in IC-11

That explains the sound problem. Thanks again but sadly no c322's in my pile o' ROMs.

But, I was just looking at eBay and came across a listing from ic_china. Looks like they are selling a lot of 10 322's for $25.00 plus shipping. Seems like a good deal.

BTW, where is it that you've gleaned this information about the PALs? Thats very good to know.

Thanks in advance.
