Well, I've finally found a place to put some arcades on location. A friend of a friend is starting up their own screen printing place, and they said they have space for 5 machines. Being fighting game players, they've specifically asked for my X-Men vs Street Fighter, Tekken Tag, and Neo-Geo.

The Neo Geo question is sorta technical. I have a two-slot. I definitely plan to upgrade to at least a 4-slot, but a 6-slot would obviously have an advantage... if there weren't so many negative words going around about them. I've heard a lot of different negative things, like they die quickly, they use to much power, they get dirty easily, etc. Anyone have any experience with them? Should I just get a 4-slot, or is all the negative press on the 6-slot mountains out of molehills?

The CPS2 question is more about popularity, I guess. X-Men vs Street Fighter might be alright, but I want to maximize my profit. Are there any other six-button fighters on the CPS2 that you'd consider a better risk? Marvel vs Capcom? Street Fighter Alpha 2 or 3? Super Street Fighter iI Turbo? Only other CPS2 board I have is Vampire Savior, and as much as I love it, I wouldn't bet on it bringing people in.

Thanks guys - just want to get my foot in the door without tripping over it.

Marvel VS. Capcom for sure! That franchise is still going strong for the XboX360 & Ps3. I would bet that that is the best recognized and most played game. Plus I'm sure they want to test their skills on an actual arcade.

For shits n giggles I would leave it as xsf and see how it does. I can't imagine mvc doing any better considering people want 2 or 3 now days.

Yeah, I like MvC and all, but I honestly think it wouldn't get that much play with MvC2 and 3 clearly being "the people's choice." I've even heard other arcades run MvC and all they got was grief from customers who wanted MvC2 instead.

That's why I'm thinking Super Turbo or Alpha 3 would be better choices, considering they are the last variations of their respective games. (Well, not techincally, considering there is Hyper Street Fighter II and the Naomi version of Alpha 3, but those didn't see a release anywhere near as wide so most people wouldn't know any better.)

xvssf still has a following, also alpha 2 and 3, and super turbo. mvc2 is the only other played vs game really. stay away from mvsf and mvc1. vampire savior is great but casual ppl may not be into it.

There also isn't a good home representation of any of the Alphas on the current gen systems. May be worth testing those waters and seeing how they do.

As far as CPS2, MvC.

The neo geos are all pretty much the same. The more gimmicks the more problems. I have a four slot and it it just as problematic as my two slot. Yes they all get dirty. Yes, they all need to have their batteries changed, etc

If you're looking for boards I have an MV4, MV4F, and an MV6 all up for sale. They have been repaired, cleaned, and have new batteries.

For the 6 slot, they work fine, the kicker is real estate space and power consumption. They are a big, power hungry board set.

It's ironic: On one hand, in general, the fewer slots on a NG board the better: The 6-Slot MVS is a power hog--the 4-Slot MVS is fussy--the 2-Slot MVS are usually OK--and the 1-Slots are setup for a JAMMA cab. BUT, on the other hand, the more games in a MVS cab the better: NG-ers really love to play on BIG RED cabs. with the 4 & 6 Slot boards. So, go figure. :D

At my local arcade, ALPHA-2, ALPHA-3, MVC, D&D-1, D&D-2, and SUPER PUZZLE FIGHTER were all very popular t8itles--even more popular than ALPHA, AVP, SSF2, SSF2T, DS1, VS, MS, X-M:COTA, and XVS. A BIG BLUE can make a good CAPCOM game look great a great CAPCOM game look IMPRESSIVE! ;)

As far as NEO carts., The King Of Fighters, Samurai Showdowns, METAL SLUGs, and Bust-A-Move titles were also popular too. :)

Thanks guys. I might be interested in the MV4 or MV4F, depending on the price.

As for the Neo Geo, the games I'm currently planning to run are KOF'98, Waku Waku 7, Metal Slug 2 and Bust-A-Move. I'll likely replace MS2 and BAM with Metal Slug 3 and Magical Drop III down the road, though.

I have a 4 slot Neo Geo and have no problems with it. 1 and 2 slot are straight JAMMA while 4 and 6 slots are slightly different because of the stereo sound. There is a Neo-Geo to JAMMA adapter available which I use to swap in other JAMMA boards from time to time.

baseball stars 2 does amazingly well in public. think about that one, waku waku is a great fighter but many will not know about it
