What have you guys bought as replacement fans for a CPS2 A board? Googling has led me to believe that Papst fans are apparently the bomb, but I thought I'd get the communal opinion. Thanks!

i got some from a fellow klov'r bitd.

you can also sometimes remove the sticker on the wire side of the fan and put a drop of 3in1 oil in to get double the life out of the fan.

What size are they?

I carry the thin fans for replacing the pesky Sega Naomi ones. Not sure offhand what size fan the CPS2 uses.

2 3/8 x 5/8 x 2 3/8"

basically 5/8" thick 60mm fans

edit:

Good call on the oil--might have to try that. I believe the fans are 60mm tall x 15mm deep. I think...

yup that size sounds right.

just be careful with the oil you just need a tiny drop, and you don't want a lot of extra as the sticker won't go back on right. I've revived many many many dieing PC fans this way and a bunch of arcade fans too.

OK,

I have a bunch of the 60x60x15 fans... haven't put them on the site yet.

$3.99 plus shipping.

keep in mind the connector for the cps2 is fairly uncommon/proprietary so you'll have to either depin your old one or cut and solder wires.

Thanks for offering them up Ray, I'd snag some but i've still got 2 here sitting in my parts drawers.

It's a cut/splice thing.

Use some heat shrink tubing to cover up the soldering.

Thanks guys! I actually found a part on eBay with the 2 pin connector the mobo uses. Thanks so much for your help though!

ORLY! very nice, i'll have to keep that in mind for the future. hit us with a link to the fan if you can thanks!

Here are the fans I got:

They're a lil spendy on this site, but I got 1 one eBay for like $10. They're supposedly dead silent and no mods are needed to plug 'em into the mobo. Just plug 'n' play! At least I hope so...haha

WAY too much money for a tiny little fan. I don't care how quiet it is. You do realize that the fan is inside of a plastic enclosure hidden below the monitor, inside of a wood game cabinet? Any fan noise created by a $2 fan will more than be drowned out by the monitor hum, game noises, and muffled by the game cab. Save your money and put any fan in there that matches the specs.

As far as the plug and play option goes, I doubt this replacement fan has the exact same lead length, which means some modifications will still need to be made, since the original fan wires are routed and wire tied alongside the pcb anyway. What I did was to de-solder the original wire harness from the point of entry on the old fan, and re attach them to the replacement fan. No mess, no splicing. Anyone who's brave enough to open up their CPS2 boards should have enough knowledge about soldering to attach a few fan wires.

agreed, $4-$5 is about the going rate for these, $18 is woooooooooo smarts.

entry point soldering: that's definitely an option, i've never done that myself. guess it's time to try one of these days.

I used the papst but you got to solder, its super easy and really silent.
