CPS2 A board "C" bolt removal?

I've had two B-boards with this annoying thing in it, both are green Japanese ones, a Super SF II and D&D Tower of Doom I think.

I tried to drill out the one in Super SF II but gave up. I was actually able to just pull the top and bottom of the B-board apart enough to slide the board out. Same with D&D. If memory serves, during the process of prying the D&D board apart to slide the board back in after battery replacement, the parts of the C-bolt contraption just popped apart and it fell out... So if you really want it out of there without risk of damaging the board with a drill, just try prying the board apart and hope the C-bolt pieces separate.

I just took a drill bit, very small to it and drilled down. Those C bolts are super soft and basically melt away like butter. Much better then the first case I tried to open that had one that I didn't expect wonered why I couldn't open it and eventually cracked the shell slightly :/

Since then, I drill all of them with 100% success. Just use a small drill bit and go slow and you will watch it melt away.

The "C" bolts are called CAPCOM Press Pins.

And I've found they are always a BITCH to remove.

Best way is to work the pin apart from the bottom. That's the short end of the pin.

Ah, so the C is the long side. Good to know. I'll try from the other end.

I usually drill these out but this isn't my A board and sometimes these pins heat up and start melting things from the friction.

Maybe I should make a tool for this.

If you can get a pair of pliers around the back end of the pin, then you can twist the back end off. The pin usually breaks off at the little neck. Not a problem if you don't mind the pin. But, if you do, then you have to separate it some how.

Personally, I don't think they had the service sector in mind when they installed the Pin.

On later releases, Capcom ditched the press pin for a security bolt on one side and a nut, sealed by a clear Capcom security sticker, on the other. Seems Capcom got the memo.

I just did the normal pry up with a flat head screwdriver. It's a board for someone else which is why I didn't want to damage anything.

I realize this thread is old, but it helped me out on removing the 'C' Capcom bolt. So I'm tossing in my experience too. Below are photos and how to do it minimizing damage to the plastic shell.

-Use 1/8" drill bit to drill out the non-'C' side. This side is the short side of the assembly. The metal is very soft, no special bit is needed.

-Slowly drill drill down the center of the non-'C' bolt head to ~1/4" to 5/16", stopping and clearing metal shavings from the bit as you go. This also allows the the Capcom bolt and drill bit to cool down preventing damage to the plastic shell.

-Gently use a very small flathead screwdriver to break away the bolt head by leveraging underneath the bolt head. Or better, use a piece of rigid flat plastic. If drilled out correctly, it will only require very slight pressure. If you are digging into the plastic, then drill a a little bit deeper. Rinse and repeat.
