Is it possible to convert a Street Fighter II board to another CPS1 game? Like Ghouls and Ghosts? Possible?

Unless i am mistaken, isnt it still just jamma? Unhook the kick harness and done deal.

I think he's talking about converting the PCB by EPROM swapping; not converting a cabinet by PCB swapping...

Yes, I want to convert a Street Fighter II PCB to another CPS1 game. Possible? Hacked roms exist?

yes and no... not eveyr board and some roms are hard to burn.

Ghouls and Ghosts can be converted from certain rare SF2 boards but most commonly CE/HF boards.

There's a thread here about it

Forgive my ignorance. But what makes an EPROM "hard to burn"?

If your programmer doesn't support it or if the EPROM has a smaller window on it than the chip die. That makes it hard to erase which makes it hard to burn. The Hitachi 27C4096 EPROMs that Capcom loved to use are a bitch for that reason.

As for converting CPS1 games you have multiple issues to deal with.
  1. A LOT of EPROMs to program. This is $$$
  2. PALs may need to be replaced. Some code may be hard to find and PALs can be pricey.
  3. C board numbers range from 01-21. If the C board is the wrong type then you can't use it to convert the game.

Thanks for the info. Anyone know if anyone has documented what works and what doesn't? This might be something to add to my site. If anyone has some definitive info, please let me know.

I have this extra Street Fighter board and would love to convert it into something else. Thanks!

There's a page on the Dead Battery Society pages that lists what PALs and C boards each game uses.

Wow.... I knew that it was possible. But didn't know it was this complex. I thought it was just EPROM swaps on the CPS-1 board.
