CPS1-3 Price Guide - our collaborative opinion

Oh! I was more correcting everyone else replying to you/reading the thread thinking it was a MvC. I thought you brought up the auction as like "MSF got 150, so why not MVC?". :) ;P

That would make me seem more intelligent. Doh! I mean, yeah, that's exactly how I meant it.

Rise from your grave...

Just thought I'd bump this and see if there needs to be some price updates based on market value and changes (Darksoft mod, Conversion PCBs, etc.). Seems like prices fluctuate quite a bit, but some are probably the same.

Someone just posted MMAO on Ghouls n Ghosts, Pang! and SFII:HF and I'm sure there's going to be discussion on what is "fair."

The prices are really weird with the CPS3 because everyone wants enough memory to play 3rd strike and while the mod resurrected all these boards and the price should have dropped the supply of the SIMMS is keeping the price high.

Someone needs to figure out how to replace the SIMMS with an SD card.

HF/CE CPS1 boards have doubled in price once the info to convert them to GG was made available.

The prices on all Capcom games has been rising.

I'm with Tighe and nessjess, it might be time to update this.

Capcom prices seem to be all over the place right now.

I agree that the guide is old. Personally, I haven't really been paying attention to prices for CPS-2/3 stuff for the last year or so, so *shrug*.

Props to the GnG hack, but I don't see that as the defining factor for why CE/HF boardsets are where they are now (I'd say 90-150, but that's what I would offer, not so much market price). It has more to do with the younger collectors wanting a CE/HF...and CE/HF being a more popular game.

The multi-CPS2 hack is going to have a big impact (one way or the other...everyone is debating that now). CPS3...I dunno. Have we seen a big rise? If anything, CPS3 compatible memory seems pricey. I don't know if that is a recent thing, since I only started looking for them to use the CPS-3 multi-game/battery free mod (which I suspect everyone else is buying them for as well).

Almost all the CPS2 stuff listed in the guide is still pretty relevant. This guide doesn't take into account different region boards for example, which is a determining factor in price. I've seen a fair share of good deals for boards on here and other forums, and then a lot of stupid ones.

About the only thing that has risen significantly is the price of A boards imo. One used ot be able to find them for 30-35, now people want 50-60.

If you look at feebay prices for cps2, it is completely bananas. The fact that SF alpha 1 is more than 50ish bucks is hilarious. I have seen people spend $200 on alpha 1, when one sold right next to it for 90ish.

If anything has contributed to prices rising for cps2 it is people publicly releasing information on how to convert them. Joe six pack gets a great idea to buy up any board to convert to one of the more sought after ones. With this in mind, add that to people buying up a board for the cps2 multiboard boot and it adds quite a bit of price to cps2.

Not sure why HF has gone up so much, got mine for $75 three years ago. Over the last year i've people lots of people on here trying to list world warriors,CE,HF for 100+ (WW is hilarious at that price). I guess if you cast a bait for a long enough time a fish will eventually bite.

HF I partially explained earlier. There's a demand for the earlier SF2 games. Everyone with nostalgia claims to want CE, since CE was the height of SF2 (I mean...EVERYONE was playing it), but the money game is almost always HF. In either case, it doesn't matter, because both use the same board and can be swapped easily as long as you have rom burning equipment (well...mostly the same board. One version of the A board is quicker and more desirable).

On KLOV, demand for HF may be because every time we have the "which SF2 should I play?" debate, it's always ST vs. HF vs. 3S, followed by any of the Alphas (because all of the Alphas are wildly different and everyone argues over 2 or 3). Outside of KLOV, it's considered second to ST in SF2 (and in some circles, it's considered better than ST...whatever, they're both fun).

Not to be self centered, but my need for HF boards around CAX may add to KLOV's demand as well.

As for World Warrior...yeah. It's the one that made everyone go ape shit over fighting games, but it's torturous to play. CE/HF fixed a lot of stuff.

Reviving a great old thread in hopes people will update. Seems in 4 years prices have tripled.

I've been out of the hobby for a couple of years and came back recently to discover this was true. Makes me regret selling off all my CPS1 and CPS2 boards I figured I could always buy again. I'm now just running a Pi as it's stupid money to even think about collecting boards again.

Pretty sure Prariedillo (the OP) still has most of his boards so he was smarter than me.

Interesting how this happens, though I suppose not all that surprising. I haven't really been paying attention for a few years since the cps2 multi has taken over my JAMMA cab. Which means my SFZ3 and SSF2T boards are basically collecting dust. Might be about time to unload them. I still have a few SF2 boards of various flavors from back when they were a dime a dozen almost. I sure wish I'd picked up a bunch more when they were still cheap.

Yeah, it's gotten pretty stupid. Though I completed my CPS2 collection w/o breaking the bank, it sure would have been nice to have picked most of them up back in the early 2000s when they were $20-$30 on ebay.

Just to state, the reason CPS1 prices are going up is probably because of the nostalgia wave. The reason for CPS2 is because the dreaded battery issue has been resolved, and now for $20 or less you can revive any board.

I think before there was a known risk that the boards were going to go bad :D

You are probably right. The 2 things I'd love to see for the future of CPSx is:

- Some sort of FPGA based CPS1 A-Board (because of the ever failing custom graphics chips).

- Arcade Hacker to dive into CPS3 to figure out how to upload keys to original carts. Sure, Darksoft mod allows all games on one cart, but I'd love to also have working originals.
