CPS1-3 Price Guide - our collaborative opinion

What about other SF2 hacks? Like Rainbow? And I have one labeled "Thunder", but not sure what that refers to...

IMHO a hack devalues the board....
I would be working to get it reverted to CE or upgraded to HF. Some may care but I dunno if it's worth pricing out.

Someone will come and ask what a boot of Punisher is worth... ($40 low and $50 high)

There should be just like 10 CC boards you should care about. I'm not sure if it's worth it.

What, No love for games like BLACK TIGER and GHOSTS N GOBLINS? :)

Kits? I'm pretty sure you can figure that out based on the PCB prices. It all depends on condition of the kit also... anyone can figure it out based on the PCB guide.

Ok.

.... and I really don't know if there were like move stickers made for like Powered Gear etc...

Have to check the POWERED GEAR manual. I noticed that my XvS manual lists 4 different kits:

1. XVS1000 (Full)
2. XVS1000B (B Kit) (Partial)
3. XVS1000E (E KIT) (Partial)
4. XVS1000BE (BE KIT) (Partial)

And only the FULL and the B KIT come with move stickers.

I agree about not going with full kit pricing. Although you can probably find full kits for a good chunk of these games if you dig, it isn't quite like MVS where collecting demand improved finding/piecing together kits. MVS is kind of unique for arcade hardware when it comes to collecting in general.

We might want to discuss different region pricing (on the fence on this myself). Mars Matrix, for example, I can find twenty Japanese boards before I bump into one American. Playing devil's advocate, for most of these there isn't a *major* reason to buy one region over another (except for cases like Super Turbo). Someone looking for Mars Matrix usually cares about obtaining and playing the game over collecting the rarer board. Someone was gonna eventually bring it up, so I figured I would.

As a side: I have purchased full B kits on release day from Japan (I really had money to burn back in the days). It came in a CPS-2 labeled box, a pack of flyer artwork you can find on Arcadeflyers.com and a manual. Alpha 3 came with a poster. Otherwise, there isn't much "tada!" about it. :p I think American differed in that it came with a Marquee.

I've never really understood the purpose of these price guides. I don't think I've ever sold 1 thing for what a price guide said it was worth, so what's the point? A 'rarity' guide would be pretty cool, but anytime you try to put prices to things you're just putting your finger in the wind.

Surprisingly, I think most of the prices are too high in the price guide. Everything I've had on that list, I've paid less for, and sold it for less than the price listed.

Usually it's the other way around with klov prices, usually people claim things are worth less than they are.

That makes sense. I was just thinking, ultimately, it comes down to the buyer and seller.

Obviously, price guides can be very subjective and broad. And there are so many factors as Prairied1ll0 mentioned in his OP. Though, that's the reason there is a low-high price range so you can sort of guess about how much it's worth in case you're looking.

I know you tend to sell things cheaper and usually cater towards the typical KLOV cheap bastard and that's awesome. I think a lot of guys who sell in here just try to help the next guy and/or aren't concerned with market value prices.

But I think this list is more for the general CPS collector or CPS noob who scours KLOV, eBay, neo-geo, etc. to find what they're looking for. It's just a starting point, nothing more. Like someone said, it's not the CPS bible or something to swear by. It's just a subjective reference put together by a bunch of knuckleheads who apparently have enough free time to do this. :)

Or just not do hacks at all. :)

IMO, whether it's a hack or bootleg of a PCB/Cart, I'd say it's about 50%+ less than the original price. Is that even worth trying to price out?

We need to keep it simple I think. This was meant to be a CPS guide so lets keep it that way for now. Kits are for hardcore collectors and as such they will pay what they want to anyways. Let's see how it goes for now. We can always get other guides going in the future if there is demand for it.

Its just a guideline for those who don't know any better. In the end you'll pay what you want and sell it for what you want.

Thanks for doing this guys.

I think the SF Alpha game is a little high. I wish I could have got $50.00 for mine. I had it for sale for awhile and finally sold it for $30.00..:(

Ok.

I asked because I've read that some people prefer the PHOENIX ROMS and they are willing to pay a little extra money to get a PHOENIXED game or get a game PHOENIEXED so that they do not have to worry about the suicide battery killing their game.

Now that's subjective. Some would prefer original batteries and would pay more for it. Not me. I'd pay the same regardless of battery or phoenix. It's another can of worms altogether.

Well said. Whether the battery has been changed or not doesn't really affect the price for me personally either. If it's unknown if and when the battery was last changed, buy a battery and change it. If the battery has been changed, brownie points. If it's been phoenixed, then that's cool too for someone that doesn't want to deal with battery changes every 5 years.

I think the list is fine as is for what we're trying to accomplish for CPS. We were even debating whether or not to even have cabinet pricing. We figured, why not? But even if that weren't on there, I don't think it would matter. We're really just talking about working original PCBs in general.

I wonder if we will see alot more CPS games going up for sale now that this guide is up... hopefully though for the better.

I'm still kind of scratching my head as to how or when Strider went up so much in price... does anyone have a link they can show of one (outside of ebay) for reference?

And before anyone argues the ebay argument, I think there is an element there that cannot be accounted for when discussing price. People who don't spend time on enthusiast forums and who are new to the hobby or just plain uninformed really have no other place to buy this stuff outside of Ebay or Craigslist. That fact coupled with ebay "bidding fever" often lead to over-inflated prices for items that would otherwise sell for a fraction of that amongst a "scene" or forum of collectors in the know. I think we all agree that stuff on ebay always sells for more but for how much more is the question. Personally I would love to see the price of all this shit drop because alot of it has really gotten out of hand as a result of someone over-paying for something one time, someone else references it later on and it then becoming the new going price for that item.

I agree. Super Turbo is a prime example. $300 is the ebay price right now. Four years ago I had a friend who imported them 10-20 at a time to sell and he had to stop because he couldn't get rid of them for $75 on ebay! It will come back down.

I won't make a lot of friends saying what I'm about to but here it goes. I like ST but it has not aged well. When I have company over they will play it and say "I remember it being more fun. Can we play Third Strike/MVC2 now?" The price will come back down eventually.

I think this is just the case of a well-known classic CPS game that went up due to some crazy person paying top dollar for it as you said. Also, it doesn't help that the board is somewhat rare. It doesn't pop up very often and when it does, it goes for the price listed in the guide.

I think the trend is, if it's rare, buy it now or you'll never see it again. Prices are never based on how good the game is. Ex. Mega Man/Rockman Power Battle series. Man, do those games suck. I think Capcom made them for 5-year olds who couldn't play SF. Sorry Gutsman! ;)

I know this is just a general price guide, but for me personally, I wouldn't pay for some of these even at the low prices. Ex. Strider. Nostalgic, yes. Classic, yes. Replay value, no. I can see myself playing through it once or twice and then sticking it on the shelf where it would collect dust for a year before I decided to play it again.

But to answer your question, here are some sales of Strider on KLOV:

Full cabinet $450
PCB $225? - I forget. Dan erased his post. But I remember it being over $200.
PCB $60 - Whoever got this was either lucky or paid what it should be worth. :)
