I have a dead marvel super hero's USA b board (battery leaked all over). And a friend has Japan marvel super hero's b board that hasn't been Phoenixed yet. So we were wondering if we can swap in the English ROMs from my dead board to convert his Japanese board to English?

Even better. There was just a break through a week ago where they have figured out how to restore suicided CPS2 boards without Phoenix'ing them.

I say, just sit tight until the details are released and rather than making just one working board out of 2, wait for the details to be released to revive your dead board:

I seen that. The English board I have has parts that were destroyed by the battery acid so the board is no good. That's the only reason I was thinking we could convert the Japanese board to English.

Nope. Will not work.

Each battery 'b' board has start-up keys. These keys are contained in ram on a custom chip on the 'b' board. The startup keys enable a set of program roms to play on that 'b' board, and disable all program roms. And the region setting for each rom is contained in the program roms.

This was capcom's way of stopping rom-swapping on the CPS2 system.

maybe I dont understand something here. Whats the problem with Phoenix'ing these boards? Yeah you get the little splash screen but the game ends up working and doesnt care about the region restrictions.

Is the restoration process to re-program the RAM like Capcom used to and replace the battery again? I have not read the thread... I will do that now.

Purists.

To answer your original question, you can swap the whole romset out to a phoenixed English romset if you really want to. You may need to mess with jumpers and the like if your B boards aren't similar revisions.

Whoops. Looks like I derailed the discussion.

If battery fluid leaked everywhere, the reason the board may be dead is that traces have been eaten. You would have to repair that first. Also, since the battery leaked, then we would conclude the board is suicided as well. Then you would have to revive the roms via Phoenix'ing or this soon to be released CPS2 revive method.

If you pull roms from one board, those roms will instantly suicide themselves as tyranix95 explained.

Its not the ROMs that go belly up, its the battery backed RAM that is the problem. ROMs can be swapped all day long but may not work depending on how the boards are jumpered and region settings.

My USA board is toast. The capcom chip next to the battery has a bunch of legs that are gone! So that's why I was thinking about swapping the roms with my friends Japan board! Also both boards are the same game just different regions.

I have a full of unencrypted Roms for sale if you need. They are not Phoenix but the Avalaunch decrypted versions of the originals. Pm me if you want them, I just pulled them from a game that's going to be darksoft'ed
