Do we assume that if a set works in MAME that is the "Phoenixed" version? I mean, they're not encrypted if they work in MAME, right? Or do I need to use a set that is specifically labeled as "Phoenix" version?

I need to resurrect a Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow Over Mystara and want to make sure I have the right files...

MAME emulates and actually documented the encryption so I wouldn't make that assumption.

I would highly recommend just getting in touch with razoola (the guy who cracked the CPS2 encryption on most games). I believe he charges 20$ or so for the phoenix roms and when I purchased from him I had the roms from initial contact within the hour.

He also burns copies for a bit extra (you ship him your roms and he ships them back phoenixed).

Really good guy. He helped me phoenix my Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix and I know Channelmaniac sends him money any time he phoenixes a board.

As far as the phoenixed set, it will say "phoenix" in the very beginning screen.

AFAIK, the "phoenixed" versions are the ones with romset names ending in "d" (for decrypted).

you want ddsomud that is the phoenix'd bootleg set.

If that is so, then it looks like I have them already. I download a set that were labeled as "Phoenix" edition, and they seem to be the same, so I'll try them.

Now I just need to wait on my adapter for my ROM burner so I can burn these 4096 ROMs...

If i remember correctly, you need to remove the battery as long as the board has already suicided.

If it hasn't...then just swap batteries and call it a day.

modessitt, did you ever do this?

do you have burn all the roms with -R on the end or just 1 rom?
I just picked up a stack of these and im going to start phoenix'ing them

i picked up a stack too :) i need to burn about 50+ roms....

SF2HAE & ProGear :)

A Progear conversion requires a minor hardware mod. Most other Phoenix/converted games just need the battery removed and appropriate ROMs swapped/added with Phoenix versions.
