Okay, I got my CPO from Rich and am very anxious to put it onto the wooden control panel I built for my Defender cab.

Before I ruin the CPO and my night I thought it might be wise to ask if there are any tips or suggestions I need to know before I "wing-it". I've found nice tutorials regarding metal CP's but nothing for wood. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt applying a cpo to wood is much different than metal. Just make sure the surface has been painted and is properly dried and of course cleaned before applying the cpo.

If I was you and I was doing a DEFENDER CPO I'd apply it to Plexi glass and glue the Plexi to the wood. Sticking it directly to wood would look poor IMO.

You'll be waaayyy happier with the results.

Good luck.

The original Defender overlay was reverse screened onto a fairly thick (1/16"?) piece of plastic. If you're replacing that with a thin, new, printed overlay (similar thickness to most CPOs), then what you're saying does sound like a pretty good way to do it. That plexi will have to be fairly thin though, so that it the overlay on top will sit flush with the top edge of the 3/4 t-molding on the front edge of the panel.
