CP Adhesive/Paint Removal Made SIMPLE

A couple of notes:

  1. Jasco will give you comparable results in that situation, though with terrible smell, and you don't want to get it on your hands or clothes
  2. On this strip you have the advantage that there is PAINT below the glue. Paint is easy to strip off of metal. Glue directly on the metal? Not so easy.

I'm currently dealing with a Frogger CP where the CPO was glued directly to the metal and I've tried everything and I'm making sloooooooow progress toward getting all the glue off.

Yep very true differnet products give you differnt results becasue of these factors.
and even if a panel is powdercoated will add another exception to the rule.
keep in mind most of these adhsives used were made by 3m
and were designed to be both chemical and heat resistant

...or you can go with the SIMPLE method... SOY-GEL. ...

Was I not the only one thinking this when I first read the name...? I hope? :D

Of course, you couldnt post this yesterday when I acually needed it

I put mine in the oven. CPO came right off, but of course I was left with the nasty remains. I spent a couple hours on it with goo gone and a palm sander. Oh well.

Is it going to be an Elevator Action cabinet? Where'd you come up with a new control panel overlay for it?

Oh... and that CP is going on this cab... (sorry guys, I just can't stop posting it... the freakin' stencils came out so awesome...)

Yeah, I'm working on a Pengo cocktail where whoever did the previous work put a generic CP over bare metal. CP came of easy. Glue residue on metal is really stubborn. Brake cleaner seems to work a bit, Citristrip Adhesive remover (not the paint remover) seems to work a bit better, but it's slow going, as CJ says. The stuff just does NOT want to leave easily. The Adhesive remover is also kinda pricey.

I'm telling you guys, a wire brush attached to your drill rips the adhesive right off...

I have used this method and it can still be slow. I had a qbert control panel that the wire brush on the drill seemed to just smear the adhesive.

Yeah, that has happened to me as well. It's great for taking paint off, but not as good with dealing with adhesive. I use the stuff Frizz showed and it works well on everything but Williams panels. Williams panels need the hard stuff!

What hard stuff would you suggest. I am replacing a CPO on a Moon Patrol, and pulling off the CPO left all of the adhesive on the wood. Has anyone used these on a wood panel? Will the new CPO still stick to it after using some of this stuff?

I have a Robotron control panel that I removed an overlay from leaving the gooey, sticky adhesive. After two months it was that sticky any more, but I still have to find a way to remove it from the bare wood.
