Covering a mdf cabinet in vinyl laminete. Need a little advice.

Hi guys. I'm planning a ms pac man replica cabaret cabinet. I'm going to cover the sides and from panel in vinyl laminate from parts express.

I'm guessing I should make sure the cab is free of any dust and dirt then go ahead and apply the vinyl. Should i prime it first? I'm thinking that the vinyl would stick well to the bare mdf without any primer. Or do you think I should spray on the 3m adhesive then apply the vinyl to the bare mdf with the glue sprayed on it?

Thanks guys!

PartsExpress vinyl is incredibly sticky. You only have ONE shot at putting it down. Any attempt to shift it/lift will separate the MDF layers and leave you with a bump showing. Same with particle board. I've only had light success quickly lifting it off of bare or epoxy-paint coated metal. There is NO need for extra glue, it will probably only cause bumps to show.

Make sure the surface is completely flat. A small (1/16" diamater) divot here or there won't be caught but any small bump will clearly show. Do whatever it takes to make it completely smooth, otherwise it will show.

Put a poly clearcoat or a coat of paint on the cab first. Vinyl laminate will not stick (long term) on your cabinet if you apply it on a raw surface.
