couple of questions on my escape from the lost world pin...

Ok....I got my sound to get louder on my EFTLW now by turning the VR1 pot on the sound board... in the beginning right after i turned it up I noticed it getting even louder on its own and I would have to turn it down...It seams to be stable now..what would cause that? second I was having issues with multiball happening all on its own it has not done it now for about a dozen games now..strange when you get multiball on this game you have to get a series of three lights to light up that is right in front of the flippers one at a time..when this would happen i would go from no lights and then all three would flash and kick out the multiball not sure why this was happening...third there is a gate at the top of the playfield that opens and closes it opens strong and closes soft and sticks and stays open when it should be shut..is there a easy fix for this?is there a spring or something that could fix the problem? and last I have four lights that are out on the field that a buddy said I need to replace a part that is behind the backglass a diod or resister? does that sound right? Any help would be great on this stuff!! Thanks every one! Have a Great day

Sound getting loud and soft could just be the POT you adjusted. Many times they wear out. You may also check all of the connections from the speaker back to the sound board. You might have something lose or a solder joint issue. When you play it, you may be bumping it enough to cause it to have better conductivity than other times hence the sound being loud then soft.

For your Multi-ball problem, I many times start by making sure all switches are working properly. You can typically do this by putting the machine into a diagnostics mode and then pressing the switches with your finger to see if they all work/are reading properly. If they all check out, I would then double check all of the connectors that go to the boards in the pinball head to make sure once the switches are activated the actual Multi-ball is properly activated. If that doesn't get it, I would need to research your games schematics to provide any additional insights. It sounds like a basic switch issue.

For the gate, I don't know your game well enough to be able to answer. Have you inspected the solenoid that opens and closes the gate to see if the spring that is currently there is properly connected? It sounds completely mechanical and not an electrical issue. I would inspect the actual solenoid from the bottom of the playfield and see if there is anything visual amiss.

Thanks Alexanr2 for all the info I will check those things out..
The only other thing is the 4 lights I have out on the playfield
I put new bulbs in thoes spots and still nothing...
What do you think? Any ideas?
Thanks again for all your help

What are the lights? General illumination lights, or do they come on when a target is hit?

General illumination lights that don't work are usually one of three things.
- Bad ground
- Bad positive voltage
- Worn out socket

You can sometimes diagnose the issue by inspection and other times you need a multimeter to check voltage.

For lights that are driven from playfield action, IE, that are interacting with the driver board / lamp matrix. These can be a variety of issues.
- driver transistor is bad
- bad light socket
- bad connector attaching the light to the driver board
- other chips bad on the driver board that control the lap matrix.

I typically first check the easy things. I find the wires on the lamp driver board that drive the light. I do a continuity test to make sure the wire nor the connector has an issue. I then work backwards. I trouble shoot the driver transistor and then up to the lamp matrix IC chips. Start with this basics first, it's the easiest part and requires just basic electric circuit knowledge.

Take a look at this page for some background on your machine.
